About the role
We are looking for a hands-on senior engineer who can take a business requirement through architecture, backend and frontend development, Azure deployment and ongoing support. You will also review existing and AI-assisted code, identify delivery risks and help other developers release reliable software. This role requires proven technical ownership and sound independent judgement.
What you will do
- Translate business requirements into practical architecture, delivery plans, APIs, data models and usable web interfaces.
- Build and maintain backend services and modern frontend applications, including authentication, permissions, validation and error handling.
- Review unfamiliar, inherited and AI-assisted code; reproduce issues, assess readiness and make improvements without depending on another engineer to validate every decision.
- Own Azure Functions and supporting application infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration and release verification.
- Design for secure access, reliable background processing, monitoring, recovery and safe database changes.
- Review pull requests, mentor developers and document technical decisions, deployment steps and operational handover.
- Build useful software with an Australian team
- Work remotely from Nepal, collaborating directly with Australian leadership and a distributed team. You’ll contribute to real-world software, integrations and automation projects, with meaningful ownership, hands-on technical responsibility and the opportunity to build solutions that make a genuine business impact.
Ownership expectations
You will own technical outcomes across the application lifecycle and provide substantive code and release reviews for the team. Peer review and agreed production approvals remain part of our delivery process.
Job SpecificationSkills and experience
- Demonstrated senior-level delivery of production applications across backend, frontend, database and deployment layers; typically 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong programming fundamentals and deep expertise in a backend ecosystem such as Python, TypeScript/Node.js or C#/.NET, plus a modern frontend framework such as React, Angular or Vue.
- Hands-on production Azure experience, including Azure Functions, storage or messaging services, application identities, secrets management and monitoring.
- Ability to build and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, with automated checks, separate environments and controlled releases.
- Practical infrastructure-as-code experience, for example Bicep or Terraform; ability to explain configuration, permissions, dependencies and recovery.
- Strong SQL, data modelling, API design and application security skills; experience diagnosing performance, concurrency and integration failures.
- Evidence of architecture decisions, effective code reviews and production incident diagnosis, with clear written and spoken English.
Preferred
- Candidate’s with strongest backend language and recent production stack, including their frontend framework.
- Candidates need to be able provide concrete Azure Functions example: their personal contribution, trigger, dependencies, deployment method, monitoring and a fault they diagnosed.
- Obtain a CI/CD example: what they personally configured or maintained, how environments and secrets were handled, and how they verified or recovered a release.
- Obtain evidence of an architecture decision, a substantive code review and a production issue they personally owned.
- Confirm willingness to complete the practical assessment without AI.
Useful additional experience
Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Graph integrations, data ingestion pipelines, operational automation and Azure cost optimisation.
AI tools and independent engineering
We use AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day work. You must also be able to design, write, debug and explain code independently, without AI assistance. You remain responsible for the correctness, security and maintainability of everything you submit, including AI-generated code. Our assessment includes a short coding and debugging exercise without AI; standard technical documentation is allowed.
Working with US
Fully remote work from Nepal, direct collaboration with an Australian business, varied projects and opportunities to grow your technical ownership. Collaboration requires agreed overlap with Melbourne business hours; the exact schedule will be confirmed during recruitment.
Role scope
This is a senior individual contributor with technical leadership responsibilities. Shortlist candidates who can review other developers’ work and own architecture, full-stack implementation and Azure releases. A senior title or years of experience alone is insufficient.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Candidates should demonstrate strong proficiency in a backend programming language, recent hands-on experience with the production technology stack, and familiarity with the relevant frontend framework.
- Candidates must provide a concrete Azure Functions example, explaining their personal contribution, trigger type, dependencies, deployment method, monitoring approach, and a production fault they diagnosed.
- Candidates must provide a CI/CD example detailing what they personally configured or maintained, how environments and secrets were managed, and how they verified or recovered a release.
- Candidates should demonstrate evidence of an architecture decision they influenced or made, a substantive code review they conducted, and a production issue they personally owned and resolved.
- The candidates must be willing to complete the practical assessment without the use of AI tools.
Practical Assessment
- Candidates will complete a 75–90-minute practical assessment comprising:
- A small coding and debugging task completed without AI assistance.
- A review of a flawed API or queue worker implementation.
- A discussion covering architecture decisions and Azure release management.
- Candidates will be expected to identify and assess security gaps, duplicate processing risks, failure recovery mechanisms, missing tests, and deployment or rollout risks, then justify their priorities and proposed solutions.
- Candidates may refer to standard documentation during the assessment. Evaluation will focus on their reasoning, technical correctness, debugging approach, and understanding of the code rather than memorisation of syntax.
Salary Benefit
- Competitive, based on industry standards, with a range of NPR 300,000–350,000 per month for deserving candidates.
Working Arrangements
- Fully remote work from Nepal, direct collaboration with an Australian business, varied projects and opportunities to grow your technical ownership. Collaboration requires agreed overlap with Melbourne business hours; the exact schedule will be confirmed during recruitment.

- Employment type: Full Time
- Experience: More than 5 years
