Position Description:

The University of Louisville School of Nursing is seeking to hire two Board-Certified Family or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners for full-time positions with time to be split between University of Louisville Campus Health Service (80%) and the School of Nursing (20%). This position will be a faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on education. In addition to the APRN role, experience in nursing education and adult learning principles will be essential. Faculty for this position should expect to have teaching assignments in undergraduate or graduate nursing. Leadership skills in working with diverse groups is crucial as is the academic credibility to garner respect from colleagues. The individual must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills and abilities, be flexible and nimble, and follow through on matters related to clinical practice, faculty, and student success.

The academic portion of the position will include clinical and/or didactic teaching responsibilities depending on the needs of the unit.

The practice portion provides the full scope of primary care services to students of the University of Louisville with an emphasis on the treatment of the young adult; however, adults of all ages may be seen. Clinical responsibilities will include:

  • Gather health histories, perform physical examinations and diagnostic procedures
  • Providing health promotion, prevention, and treatments to patients
  • Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, anxiety, depression and minor injuries
  • Prescribing medications as needed for the plan of care
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests
  • Use of Campus Health’s electronic medical records system
  • Document all patient interactions in an accurate and timely manner
  • Effectively communicate with diverse populations
  • Work within an interprofessional team in a professional and respectful manner and refers patients to consulting health care providers when appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Nursing
  • Board Certification as a primary care nurse practitioner
  • License (or ability to attain) a Kentucky APRN license
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information
  • 2 years’ experience working as an APRN
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience in acute and chronic adult health and/or public/community health nursing.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Kentucky.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • 4 years’ experience as an APRN in primary care
  • Experience as an APRN in a specialty area such as: orthopedics; care of the LGBT patient; or women’s health.
  • Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.
