Job Summary:

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, is seeking candidates for a clinical-track anatomic pathology faculty position. There is a 60% expected effort for clinical diagnostic biopsy and necropsy service/clinical teaching, with variable percentage distributions for teaching pre-clinical veterinary students, collaborative research, and academic service responsibilities. The selected individual will participate heavily in the training of anatomic pathology residents and 4th year rotations students. They will also contribute to the professional student instructional program in the discipline-integrated OnWard curriculum. Involvement may include organizing or facilitating active learning exercises, laboratory exercises, and asynchronous didactic materials, including optional development of focused elective courses. Teaching is centered on collaborative efforts between basic scientists and veterinary clinicians of multiple disciplines. The individual also may contribute to other courses in the veterinary, undergraduate, or graduate student curricula. The position is open for applicants at the assistant and associate professors’ levels. The minimum requirements for the selected candidate include a DVM or equivalent, ACVP or ECVP board certification, and licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin. Two years of post-residency experience in diagnostic pathology, research experience and/or a PhD, as well as a demonstrated strong interest and experience in training pathology residents are preferred.

Department of Pathobiological Sciences the School of Veterinary Medicine and the University provide outstanding collaborative research opportunities. In addition, our anatomic pathology section has a long-standing collaboration with the Milwaukee County Zoo. The city of Madison and surrounding area are home to a large and very active community of veterinary and human pathologists from both UW (e.g., Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, Research Animal Resources and Compliance Center, and School of Medicine and Public Health) and non-UW entities (e.g. National Wildlife Health Center, Labcorp, and Inotiv), and there are many opportunities to interact with members of this community, both socially and professionally.

The University of Wisconsin Veterinary Clinic opened a $130 million veterinary teaching hospital in the spring of 2024, providing state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities. The School of Veterinary Medicine was ranked in the top 5 in 2025 by US News and World Report. A midsized city with big-city energy, Madison offers diverse cultural and outdoor attractions locally and within a 1-4-hour drive to Milwaukee, Chicago, and Minneapolis.

Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles of Assistant Clinical Professor and Clinical Associate Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications for the finalist.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS, PhD, or double board certification desired
