The University of New Hampshire is seeking a strategic, audience-obsessed Copywriter to lead the development of compelling marketing copy that inspires our target audiences to take action.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Content Marketing, this role serves as the primary copywriter for undergraduate student recruitment and Advancement marketing, creating messaging across digital, print, email, social media, advertising, video, web, and campaign materials. The ideal candidate understands that great copy isn't simply well written; it is written to make a specific audience think, feel, or do something.

The successful candidate is equal parts storyteller, strategist, and collaborator, with a passion for understanding audiences, translating insights into powerful messaging, and maintaining a consistent brand voice across every touchpoint.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Marketing Copywriting

  • Serve as the lead copywriter for undergraduate admissions and Advancement marketing initiatives.

  • Write persuasive, audience-centered copy for various marketing materials, such as email campaigns, web pages, digital advertising, print collateral, video scripts, social media, event materials, and more.

  • Adapt messaging for different stages of the customer journey, from awareness through conversion and stewardship.

Audience Strategy

  • Develop copy grounded in audience insights, research, and behavioral best practices.

  • Create messaging that motivates prospective students to apply, admitted students to enroll, alumni to engage, and donors to give.

  • Balance emotional storytelling with clear calls to action.

  • Continuously refine messaging based on campaign performance and audience feedback.

Brand Stewardship

  • Ensure all copy reflects UNH's brand voice, messaging architecture, and editorial standards.

  • Maintain consistency across channels while tailoring messages for distinct audiences.

  • Help evolve messaging frameworks and copy guidelines.

Collaboration

  • Partner closely with designers, strategists, marketers, project managers, photographers, videographers, social media specialists, and campus partners.

  • Participate in campaign planning from concept through execution.

  • Provide copy direction and messaging consultation to internal stakeholders.

Editing & Quality Assurance

  • Edit and proofread marketing materials for clarity, accuracy, consistency, grammar, and style.

  • Ensure all copy meets accessibility, SEO, and digital content best practices where appropriate.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, writing, communications, marketing, advertising, or a related field. Minimum of four years of professional copywriting experience in marketing, social media, advertising, communications, or a related field.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to write for multiple audiences and channels.

  • Experience developing persuasive marketing copy that drives engagement and measurable action.

  • Strong understanding of brand voice and message strategy.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, agency, or mission-driven marketing.

  • Experience writing enrollment, fundraising, or customer acquisition campaigns.

  • Familiarity with email marketing, CRM communications, and digital marketing best practices.

  • Knowledge of SEO and web writing.

  • Experience interpreting audience insights and campaign data to improve messaging.

  • Loves writing with purpose.

  • Is endlessly curious about what motivates people.

  • Thinks like both a writer and a marketer.

  • Can shift seamlessly between emotional storytelling and concise, action-oriented copy.

  • Understands that every word should move an audience toward a desired outcome.

  • Enjoys collaborating, brainstorming, and refining ideas with creative teams.

  • Brings empathy, curiosity, and creativity to every project.
