On our SRE team, you will help operate our AWS EKS and Databricks platforms, improve their security and observability, and partner with application and data teams to resolve production issues and make services easier to run.\n\nThis position is a full-time contract position. If you have an automation mindset, know AWS services inside out, have distributed system / microservice experience, can triage complex cloud / application stack issues, like to solve engineering problems and lead by example, then you will thrive in this position.\n\nAbout You\n\nYou are a strong communicator, both verbally and written\n\nYou take ownership for the quality of your individual efforts\n\nYou have proven experience building and managing large-scale cloud systems and tools in AWS in repeatable and maintainable ways (zero downtime)\n\nYou have experience as an SRE/DevOps professional working on n-tier AWS architecture\n\nYou are adept at authoring, reviewing, and deploying Terraform, including modules\n\nYou have hands-on experience maintaining, triaging, and managing Kubernetes\n\nYou treat people with respect, have a good sense of humor and are non-abrasive\n\nYou are constantly reading and learning, ever the consumer of knowledge\n\nMust Haves for This Role\n\n5+ years of experience preferred\n\nStrong expertise in:AWS\n\nAmazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service), the primary focus\n\nTerraform (must be very strong)\n\nBackend/platform engineering\n\nKubernetes cluster build, maintenance, and upgrades\n\nSRE/Platform Engineering background preferred\n\nDatabricks experience is not required and is considered a bonus\n\nExperience with security tools such as Rapid7 is not mandatory\n\nSecurity awareness and understanding of security best practices are expected\n\nIdeal Candidate\n\nA senior AWS/EKS platform engineer with 5+ years of experience, strong Terraform skills, hands-on experience building and managing Kubernetes/EKS clusters at scale, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple engineering teams\n\nDatabricks experience is a bonus but not a requirement\n\nSpecifically Looking For\n\nHands-on experience operating or supporting AWS EKS in production, including troubleshooting Kubernetes workloads, networking, and cluster health\n\nExperience supporting Databricks workloads or platform services, or a strong foundation in data platforms with an interest in developing Databricks expertise\n\nExperience using Terraform to deliver repeatable infrastructure changes and improve platform reliability\n\nA collaborative approach to supporting other engineering teams, investigating incidents, and turning recurring support work into automation and runbooks\n\nShould Have\n\nExperience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer in Test, SRE, or DevOps Engineer with practical experience developing and/or supporting enterprise applications\n\nExperience with infrastructure automation technologies like Terraform (3+ years of everyday use preferred)\n\nExpertise in container/container-fleet-orchestration technologies, specifically EKS and/or ECS\n\nVersatility troubleshooting diverse sets of hosting technologies: web server platforms, application platforms, operating systems, network components, virtualization technologies, storage, and database platforms\n\nExpertise with continuous-deployment based software development lifecycles (e.g. CI/CD)\n\nCloud database operations and deployment experience (RDS MySQL/Postgres/Aurora)\n\nExpertise with Lean/Agile deployment processes (Blue/Green, ZDT, Canary, DNS migration strategies)\n\nFamiliarity with telemetry SaaS systems like New Relic and Datadog or similar systems from other vendors\n\nStrong problem solving, triage, root cause analysis and systems engineering skills\n\nDemonstrated expertise building and managing highly scaled production infrastructure in the cloud\n\nExperience with AI tooling and integrations, including AI assistants and productivity tools (Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.)\n\nNice to Have\n\nOur team is a polyglot organization. Being \"conversational\" in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, PHP, Ruby, Golang, Java, Bash, Markdown, reStructuredText, HCL, JSON, YAML, and TOML is a huge plus\n\nBS degree in Computer Science (or related technical field and/or equivalent industry experience) preferred\n\nYour Contributions Would Include\n\nDesigning, building, and maintaining Kubernetes releases using established Terraform patterns, with attention to security, observability, and operational readiness\n\nSupporting teams using EKS and Databricks, including production triage, root-cause analysis, and improvements to monitoring and documentation\n\nEnsuring repeatability, traceability, and transparency of our infrastructure automation (infrastructure-as-code, monitoring-as-code)\n\nEvaluating emerging Kubernetes capabilities, such as EKS Auto Mode, Karpenter, and Argo CD, and identifying where they could improve the platform\n\nSupporting on-call rotations for operational duties that have not been addressed with automation, with an eye for correcting issues that result in on-call alarms, and reducing recurring alerts and manual operational work through automation\n\nMaintaining telemetry that improves visibility into our applications' performance and business metrics and keeps operational workload in check\n\nSupporting healthy software development practices, including complying with agile software development methodology, performing code reviews, work packaging, and continuous delivery\n\nParticipating in failure injection and chaos testing efforts\n\nObserving and documenting steady state
