This is a fully remote position.\nWho You Are\nYou're an experienced senior engineer with strong backend expertise. You're a pragmatic, thoughtful engineer with experience owning projects end-to-end. You're excited to build the technical foundation for AI-powered healthcare and apply solid engineering principles to deliver reliability when it matters most.\nWhat You'll Do\nDevelop and maintain high-quality backend systems in Python.\n\nWork with frontend, product and other engineering team members to scope and define backend functionality for the product.\n\nDesign internal and external APIs that power the UpDoc platform.\n\nDevelop and maintain integrations with third-party healthcare services.\n\nHelp with aspects of the end-to-end engineering stack such as DevOps, CI/CD and observability.\n\nParticipate in day-to-day engineering tasks such as code review and troubleshooting production issues.\n\nCollaborate with clinical experts to ensure our services are accurate, reliable and trustworthy.\n\nWhat You’ll Need\n5+ years of professional backend development experience.\n\nComfortable working with type-hinted, modern Python.\n\nAbility to deliver reliable, maintainable systems in a fast-paced environment where safety matters.\n\nKnowledge of backend-relevant software engineering fundamentals, e.g. networking basics, HTTP, caching, database design, RPC, etc.\n\nExperience with cloud platforms (especially Azure), DevOps/IaC practices and containerization.\n\nExperience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs.\n\nExtensive experience with software testing methodologies and practices.\n\nExperience troubleshooting complex technical issues in production environments.\n\nDemonstrated ability to learn continuously, work independently and communicate effectively.\n\nExperience owning projects end-to-end.\n\nHighly Desired\nExtensive experience with Python and knowledge of the Python ecosystem.\n\nExperience with FastAPI and Pydantic.\n\nExperience with healthcare industry standards, such as FHIR, and regulations, including HIPAA and SOC 2.\n\nExperience in an early stage (< 20 employees) startup environment.\n\nExperience building applications with
