Success in this role requires strong people leadership, operational excellence, strategic thinking, and the ability to build and grow high-performing engineering teams.\nYou will independently own team execution, delivery outcomes, engineering excellence, and employee development while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.\nWe expect our team members to:\nAct with integrity, even when it’s hard\n\nAlways stay curious and ready to learn\n\nWork to meaningful outcomes, mindful of each step\n\nOperate as a unified team, made stronger by uniqueness\n\nResponsibilities & Skills\nYou should:\nBe excited to work with talented, committed people in a fast-paced environment.\n\nLead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of 5+ software engineers across multiple experience levels.\n\nFoster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.\n\nProvide regular coaching, performance feedback, career development guidance, and growth opportunities for team members.\n\nDrive engineering execution across multiple concurrent initiatives while ensuring alignment with business goals and product priorities.\n\nPartner closely with Product Managers, Architects, Designers, and stakeholders to define scope, priorities, delivery plans, and technical strategy.\n\nSupport project planning, resource allocation, estimation, and prioritization to maximize business impact.\n\nBalance customer commitments, operational support needs, platform investments, technical debt reduction, and new feature development.\n\nChampion engineering excellence through code quality, automated testing, security, observability, and operational best practices.\n\nEnsure timely delivery of high-quality software with strong attention to scalability, reliability, performance, maintainability, and security.\n\nPromote Agile development practices and continuously improve team processes and delivery effectiveness.\n\nIdentify risks early, remove blockers, and proactively mitigate challenges impacting delivery or team productivity.\n\nKeep teams aligned with long-term product and platform strategy while effectively managing near-term commitments.\n\nUnderstand business objectives and ensure engineering decisions support company goals and customer outcomes.\n\nLead by example through technical credibility, sound judgment, and a solutions-oriented mindset.\n\nDemonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nBe exceptionally self-motivated, proactive, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.\n\nRequired Skills (Frontend - React & Angular):\nHave 12+ years of industry experience delivering enterprise-grade software products, including 3-5 years in an engineering leadership role.\n\nHave experience building or scaling enterprise SaaS platforms, APIs, and customer-facing applications using Python and React.\n\nPossess strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable microservices-based systems.\n\nHave experience coding with Python and modern frontend frameworks such as React and/or Angular.\n\nDemonstrate strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, security principles, reliability, and cost optimization.\n\nHave hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud platforms and core cloud services.\n\nUnderstand CI/CD practices, deployment automation, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps principles.\n\nHave experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nBe familiar with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, and CloudWatch.\n\nDemonstrate strong analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges.\n\nBe proficient with Jira, Confluence, and modern engineering collaboration tools.\n\nThe following experiences are not required, but you'll stand out from other applicants if you have any of the following, in our order of importance:\nExperience with Databricks, Data Lakes, BigQuery, or modern data platform technologies.\n\nExperience working in a SaaS or product-led software organization.\n\nExperience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.\n\nExperience with event-driven architectures and serverless technologies.\n\nExperience building reusable platform services, frameworks, or shared engineering capabilities.\n\nExperience contributing to engineering strategy, organizational planning, and budgeting.\n\nExperience managing globally distributed engineering teams.\n\nExperience working in the Utility, Energy, or Sustainability domain.\n\nQualifications\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.\n\nWhy Join Uplight in Leading the Fight Against Climate Change?\nAt Uplight, we're not just offering a job - we're offering a chance to be part of the solution to one of the world's biggest challenges.
