Project Manager

If you are the kind of project manager who can turn complex customer requirements, contract scope, and cross-functional engineering work into shipped software, this is a chance to manage meaningful aerospace and defense technology projects that improve how aircraft inspection, maintenance, and manufacturing data is used. You will work with engineers, product partners, QA, technical leads, and customers to keep strategic, customer-funded software projects moving across scope, schedule, budget, risk, and delivery.

Opportunity

Our client is a rapidly growing aerospace and defense technology company headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. Its software supports military maintenance organizations and large commercial aircraft manufacturers, helping improve aircraft safety, reliability, production rates, and cost efficiency.

This role provides overall project management for assigned strategic projects that support business growth and improve operating efficiency across a growing software company. You will manage work tied to long-range planning and near-term delivery goals in a Scrum/Agile environment, while also coordinating tasks, deadlines, status, and expectations with customers.

What You Will Own

Project planning and delivery

  • Manage customer-funded software projects from kickoff through completion, keeping work aligned to contractual scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Build and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, action items, risks, issues, and decision items.
  • Translate statements of work, contract modifications, and customer requirements into development activities and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide forward-looking project planning with attention to upcoming tasks, due dates, resource availability, and delivery commitments.
  • Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, manage key milestones, and summarize project progress for internal and external stakeholders.

Customer and stakeholder coordination

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers on assigned projects.
  • Lead recurring status meetings, technical discussions, demonstrations, training coordination, and project reviews.
  • Prepare customer-facing reports, presentations, project plans, meeting materials, and contract deliverables.
  • Identify known customer needs and route them to the appropriate team members.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with team members, vendors, customers, and departments contributing to project delivery.

Cross-functional software execution

  • Coordinate with technical leads, developers, QA personnel, product managers, application engineers, design engineers, and architecture partners to establish priorities and monitor progress.
  • Support product and release planning activities, including roadmap reviews, sprint planning, readiness reviews, and deployment coordination.
  • Identify risks, issues, roadblocks, and resource constraints early; develop mitigation plans and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Coordinate interdependent projects by managing resources, dependencies, priorities, and timing across teams.
  • Help define and improve processes and standards for software and operations teams.

Forecasting, reporting, and operating rhythm

  • Provide and track accurate forecast spending, project financials, milestones, and delivery dates.
  • Give employees task assignments with defined objectives, due dates, and estimated hours.
  • Support quarterly and annual planning with attention to past performance and future efforts.
  • Track, report, and review companywide KPIs, including revenue numbers and progress against priorities.
  • Communicate milestone status clearly and consistently so leaders, customers, and delivery teams understand where projects stand.

What Makes You a Strong Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, communications, or a related field.
  • 3+ years managing software development, technology implementation, or customer delivery projects.
  • Experience managing multiple technical projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Fluency in project or program management methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with planning, implementation, work breakdown structures, risk management, cost estimating, schedule development, and related project management practices.
  • Experience preparing customer-facing reports, presentations, project plans, meeting materials, or contract deliverables.
  • A proven record of leading project execution activities and delivering results for business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across levels inside and outside the organization.
  • An analytical, detail-oriented approach combined with the ability to understand the bigger picture and how project decisions affect cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, root-cause analysis, organization, follow-through, and ability to execute a plan.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working with government or defense-related customers.
  • Experience managing government contracts with funded development work.
  • Experience working in Scrum/Agile and Waterfall software development environments.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in an aerospace, defense, manufacturing, maintenance, data, or technical software environment.

Work Style and Culture

This is a strong fit for someone who is curious, pragmatic, adaptable, and comfortable learning new domains quickly. The team values people who can lead through ambiguity, influence across business units, coordinate internal and external resources, and keep projects moving when roadblocks appear.

You will be joining a company that combines a small-company feel with meaningful technical work and growth opportunities. The culture emphasizes respect, thoughtful communication, collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and practical innovation.
