One half is stewardship: accurate books, a disciplined close, a clean audit, and internal controls that hold. The other half is strategy - the Controller at Ursinus is not confined to the rearview mirror. You will help shape the multi-year financial model, support the Board’s budget and long-range planning work, and ensure that the numbers underneath every major institutional decision are ones the College can defend.\nUrsinus is a residential liberal arts college of approximately 1,300 students and, like much of the sector, is actively managing enrollment pressure and a multi-year effort to align its cost structure with revenue. That work succeeds only if the underlying financial information is fast, clean, and trusted. Guaranteeing that is why this position exists.\nKey Responsibilities \nFinancial Reporting and the Annual Audit:\nOwn the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all accounting and financial reporting for the College. \nProduce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and deliver them on a schedule leadership can plan around. \nManage the year-end close and serve as primary liaison to the external auditors, coordinating the annual audit from planning through issuance of the audited financial statements. \nPrepare and review the audit schedules, footnote support, and management representations that underpin the financial statements. \nSupport financial reporting to the Board of Trustees and its Audit and Finance committees. \nAccounting Operations and Internal Control:\nDirect all general accounting activity, ensuring completeness and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulation. \nMaintain the chart of accounts and fund structure, and govern changes to both. \nDesign, document, monitor, and continuously strengthen internal controls over financial transactions, including segregation of duties and delegation of authority. \nEnsure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, disbursements, purchasing, and contract administration. \nOversee reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a defined cycle, with exceptions escalated and cleared rather than carried forward. \nEndowment, Debt, Capital, and Restricted Funds:\nOversee endowment accounting, including unitization, the annual spending distribution, and compliance with donor restrictions and UPMIFA. \nReconcile gift and pledge activity with Advancement, and ensure restricted funds are released and reported correctly. \nAccount for capital projects and fixed assets from authorization through capitalization and depreciation. \nMaintain debt accounting and monitor compliance with bond covenants; prepare continuing disclosure filings and support rating agency and lender reporting. \nOversee grant accounting for federal, state, and private awards, including financial reporting to sponsors. \nStrategic Partnership with the VPFA: \nServe as a thought partner to the VPFA on the College's financial position, translating accounting results into implications leadership can act on. \nCollaborate on the accounting foundation for the multi-year financial model such as actuals, run rates, commitments, and the constraints that govern what is possible. \nMonitor cash position and near-term liquidity, and produce the cash forecasting that supports operating and capital decisions. \nAdvise on the accounting and reporting consequences of proposed initiatives, new revenue ventures, and financing structures before decisions are made. \nCompliance and Tax:\nEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, including IRS, U.S. Department of Education, and funding agency regulation. \nOversee preparation of Forms 990 and 990-T and related filings, and manage exposure areas such as unrelated business income and nonresident withholding. \nOversee institutional financial reporting obligations, including the IPEDS finance components and other required external surveys. \nMonitor emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes, assess their impact on the College, and implement them on schedule. \nMaintain and periodically refresh the College's financial policies. \nTeam Leadership:\nSupervise, develop, and mentor the Controller's Office staff across general accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, and contracts. \nSet clear standards for accuracy, turnaround, and service, and hold the team to them. \nBuild depth and cross-coverage so that critical functions do not depend on a single person. \nFoster a culture of service, precision, and continuous improvement across a team that supports every department on campus. \nSystems and Process Improvement: \nIn partnership with IT, own the operation, configuration, and optimization of the College's financial systems, currently Oracle Cloud ERP. \nIdentify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and transparency, and reduce manual effort in the close. \nPartner with Information Technology and functional departments to ensure clean integration of financial data across systems. \nFirst-Year Priorities: \nDeliver a clean, on-time audit and a shortened, better-documented year-end close. \nAssess the current state of internal controls and reconciliation discipline, and close identified gaps. \nAdvance the College's use of Oracle Cloud ERP, with an emphasis on reporting and automation. \nEstablish the recurring financial reporting package the VPFA, President, and the Board rely on. \nQualifications \nRequired: \nBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. \nActive CPA license. \nMinimum of seven years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least three years supervising professional staff. \nStrong working knowledge of GAAP as applied to not-for-profit organizations, including net asset classification, contribution and endowment accounting, and fund accounting. \nDemonstrated ownership of a year-end close and an external financial statement audit. \nProficiency with an enterprise ERP system and advanced Excel skills. \nExceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a record of meeting deadlines. \nPreferred:\nExperience in higher education or another complex not-for-profit organization. \nMaster's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. \nHands-on experience with Oracle Cloud ERP, or leadership of an ERP implementation or optimization. \nDepth in endowment accounting, UPMIFA, gift and grant accounting, and tax-exempt debt. \nFamiliarity with federal compliance requirements, including Uniform Guidance and the Single Audit. \nExperience presenting financial information to a governing board or its committees. \nCompetencies and Attributes: \nStrategic and analytical. Sees past the transaction to the pattern, and past the pattern to the decision. \nClear communicator. Explains technical accounting to non-accountants such as deans, department chairs, trustees, without condescension and without losing precision. \nCollaborative leader. Builds a team people want to join and want to stay on. \nUnimpeachable integrity. High ethical standards and absolute discretion with confidential information. \nService-oriented. Treats colleagues across campus as constituents to be served, not requesters to be processed. \nSteady under pressure. Keeps quality high through close, audit, and budget season alike.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7546,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":3,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Design & Creative","Media & Entertainment"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-28T21:02:04Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 1","filings_12m":1,"filings_prev_12m":2,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":62500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":true,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":50,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.837,"p_room":0.6,"age_days":61,"expected_fill_days":87,"reasons":["conf:13","win:late","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-11-04T06:34:25Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/ursinus-college-controller","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/ursinus-college-controller.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-04T21:23:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":33145,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-05T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1847855},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1847855"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fursinus-college-controller"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fursinus-college-controller"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fursinus-college-controller"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/ursinus-college-controller\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fursinus-college-controller"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":1416644}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"ursinus.edu","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":1416644},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
