ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.\n\nClick on \"Learn more about this agency\" button below to view Eligibilities being considered and other IMPORTANT information.\nDuties\n\n SUMMARY CONTINUED: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) performing duties for systems administration, network operation and maintenance, Information Technology (IT) security and system accreditation.\n\nDUTIES:\n\n Performs duties in support of systems administration, providing technical assistance to unit personnel regarding hardware, operating systems, and application software.\n\n Performs duties supporting the management of unit network connectivity, infrastructure, and network maintenance.\n\n Analyzes network traffic patterns, system error messages, and software/hardware utilization reports to identify and correct problems.\n\n Provides Work Group Manager (WM)/customer support, help desk, assistance, training, and orientation in support of network and systems operations.\n\n Performs duties for the management of the Information Technology (IT) security program, protecting unit IT assets against unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, and destruction of data.\n\nOBLIGATED POSITION: This position is obligated to an individual with return rights from an overseas appointment. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, or return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s). When a position is obligated to an employee it means that he/she has entitlements to that position. Specialized experience is experience which includes analyzing a variety of problems, questions, or conditions associated with systems administration, network management, IT security, and customer service and formulating solutions or recommendations within established parameters which impact communications and systems by identifying and preventing the spread of malicious logic such as system viruses.\n\nFEDERALTIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.\n\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:\n\n Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to perform duties in support of the planning, coordinating and administering of computer systems; configure and interface hardware and software programs with operating systems; test and validate system performance, and recommending methods to improve.\n\n Knowledge of performance measurement, tools, systems, testing, diagnostics, and analytical methods and practices.\n\n Knowledge of network principles, configuration management, architecture, tools, equipment and interfaces, communications connectivity requirements, telecommunications concepts and techniques, and operating systems software.\n\n Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis.\n\n Knowledge of customer support principals, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions and providing guidance and training to customers and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.\n\n Knowledge of Information Technology security principles, policies, products and services to assess risk factors and advise on vulnerability to attack from a variety of sources, procedures, and methods for protection of systems and applications.\n\nPART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.\n\nVOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
