As a shared service function supporting all USAA entities, our team works on high-visibility initiatives and complex accounting matters that provide the opportunity to partner across Finance and the broader organization.\nWe offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.\nThis position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL.\nWhat you'll do:\n\nApplies advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) and regulatory accounting treatment to complex accounting transactions and shares understanding of key implications.\nMay assist team members in developing knowledge of various accounting transactions.\nMakes recommendations, prepares and communicates processes and procedures, financial results and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.\nAssists in resolving accounting issues and makes recommendations to leadership.\nPerforms in a financial accounting advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies. Collaborates and maintains strong relationships with business partners.\nLeads special projects related to financial accounting and coordinates with key stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate completion.\nResolves issues and provides informed, proactive reporting and analysis to enable effective decision making.\nDevelops and maintains processes, procedures and tools impacting financial accounting that may impact the finance organization.\nFacilitates and reviews internal controls to ensure an effective and efficient financial system.\nReviews the work of team members and provides guidance and coaching when issues arise.\nEnsures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.\nWhat you have:\n\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; OR a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field coupled with a Certified Public Accountant designation; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.\nWhat sets you apart:\n\nCertified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred but not required.\nExperience with SOX controls, including control execution, documentation, testing, and issue remediation.\nKnowledge of or experience with Regulation W requirements and related accounting and control considerations.\nExperience supporting financial system implementations and change requests, including requirement documentation, solution design, test case creation, user acceptance testing, and issue resolution.\n6 years of relevant work experience performing accounting functions including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and preparing financial results for internal and external purposes or other similar experience.\nAdvanced knowledge and application of GAAP and STAT or regulatory accounting practices.\nDemonstrated ability to partner and communicate effectively with internal and external team members.\nAdvanced knowledge of financial or accounting data analysis techniques and statistical methodologies.\nAdvanced knowledge of relevant technical accounting and reporting disciplines.\nAdvanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Word.\nUS military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.\nCompensation range: The salary range for this position is: $85,040.00 - $162,550.00.\nUSAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
