USAA roles may offer remote or hybrid flexibility for active-duty military spouses consistent with applicable policy and business needs.\nThe Opportunity\nWe are currently seeking a talented Government Relations Director for our Washington, DC location.\nAs a Government Relations Director, you will play a key role in advancing USAA’s legislative and public policy priorities. You will monitor and analyze proposed legislation that may impact USAA’s operations and membership, represent USAA on legislative and public policy matters, and participate in industry organizations focused on key policy issues. You will help develop political and legislative strategies, engage with legislators and other stakeholders, and may testify on legislation of particular importance to USAA. You will also provide timely updates on legislative activity and serve as a trusted resource and liaison to regional legislative officers and their teams.\nWe offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based at the Reserve Officers Association at One Constitution Avenue, NE, Washington, DC.\nRelocation assistance is not available for this position.\nWhat you'll do:\nAnalyzes proposed legislation for early identification of issues relevant to USAA and coordinates strategies to achieve USAA's legislative objectives.\nWorks with other company and trade association representatives to ensure appropriate discussion and analysis are considered, and the requisite coordinated action is executed.\nCreates strategy for legislative advocacy and manages implementation of lobbying strategy.\nDirects information resources in relation to active legislation.\nResponds internally to questions on a variety of legislative issues that affect the company and frequently interact with senior management on matters requiring inter- and intracompany coordination.\nUnderstands the political environment and utilizes newspapers, websites, professional contacts and trade associations to identify key issues, political figures and races that might affect USAA's operations.\nProvides interpretation and explanation of the more complex legislative enactments.\nAdvises management on prudent political strategy and the potential reaction.\nMaintains knowledge of USAA's current operations and the financial services industry.\nStays abreast of issues in the financial services industry and actively seeks to link those issues to ongoing or emerging legislative opportunities.\nMaintains relationships both within and outside USAA to facilitate information gathering and dissemination.\nRepresents USAA before Federal and/or State Legislatures and Regulatory Agencies, where appropriate.\nEnsure business risks are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in line with risk and compliance policies and procedures.\nWhat you have:\nBachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.\n8 years of experience in government relations or law.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complicated and technical points related to political strategy clearly.\nExperience working with Federal and/or State Legislatures and Regulatory Agencies.\nDemonstrated knowledge and application of legislative processes and procedures.\nAdvanced understanding of federal, state, and local political landscape and issues.\nExperience advocating on behalf of an organization or issue.\nSubject matter expert in Microsoft office and applicable web tools.\nWhat sets you apart:\nSignificant expertise in federal tax policy, with recent experience serving on Capitol Hill or within a federal regulatory agency.\nCurrent or recent experience on a government relations team, preferably within financial services or a consulting firm, with a focus on tax policy and related legislative or regulatory matters.\nJuris Doctor (JD) degree.\nUS military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.\nSalary: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,000.\nUSAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
