As a Senior Software Engineer embedded within an Agile team, you will provide hands-on expertise across a diverse portfolio of applications spanning legacy platforms, modern cloud technologies, integrations, production operations, platform modernization, and technical debt remediation.\nWe are looking for a collaborative software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes ownership of outcomes, and is passionate about building reliable solutions that serve our members every day. This position can be based in the following location: San Antonio, TX.\nRelocation assistance is not available for this position.\nWhat you'll do:\nDesign, develop, code, and test complex tactical as well as strategic technical solutions across many technologies, including emerging technologies to integrate existing systems and tools, collaborating with Engineers or Architects within their team/department and occasionally outside of their domain.\nLead code/design reviews and communicate updates to stakeholders with team to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.\nDevelop complex algorithms to solve business needs.\nInvestigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues by directing troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.\nMentors engineers, coaches engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems; Reviews teammates' code.\nInfluence and help shape the future of their specific domain's architecture and quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution.\nIdentify system performance issues, to include technical debt, and optimize solution.\nEnsures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.\nWhat you have:\nBachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.\n6 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).\n4 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.\nDeep Understanding of one or more of the following:\nEAI-Assisted Software Engineering, Building AI-Powered Applications (RAG, AI Agents, Spring AI, OpenShift AI)\nJava, Swift, Objective-C, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++++, HTML, CSS, Go, Python, JSON, XML, SOAP, REST APIs, Spring Boot, React, Redux, Git, GitLab, OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes fundamentals, Open Liberty, SQL, JUnit, Mockito, Kafka or MQ, Dynatrace\nzOS, TSO/ISPF, PL/I, Cobol, SQL, JES2 / JES, RACF, WLM, SMF, JCL, PROCs, Job Scheduling concepts, Fault Analyzer, REXX, Python on z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, UDB, Oracle, IBM z/OS Connect\nDemonstrated experience researching technical issues and generating creative/innovative solutions.\nDemonstrated experience addressing production issues by troubleshooting applications and systems.\nExperience articulating technical challenges and solutions.\nDemonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals.\nDemonstrated experience working with cloud technologies and tools.\nWhat sets you apart:\nExperience supporting Property & Casualty insurance platforms and business processes.\nExperience supporting large-scale insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated business environments.\nExperience applying Generative AI and AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate software development, improve code quality, enhance production support, automate operational processes, support application modernization, and improve overall engineering productivity across complex enterprise environments.\nExperience developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications in complex production environments.\nExperience working across both legacy and modern technology stacks, including technologies such as PL/I, COBOL, CICS, DB2, Mainframe, Java, AWS, and cloud-native platforms.\nUS military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.\nCompensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080 - $218,030.\nUSAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
