Responsible for firing up boilers, observe, and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation. Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high- temperature water. The incumbent may also perform one or more of the following tasks: maintain a log in which various aspects of boiler operation are recorded; clean, oil, make minor repairs or assist in repair to boiler room equipment; and following prescribed methods, treat boiler water with chemicals and analyze boiler water for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity. Uses a Computer Maintenance Management System (Maximo) to correctly capture data related to maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance inspections, and emergency/urgent customer requests. Uses a Tablet to track work orders, request material, add labor and material used against a work order. Boiler mechanics shall have a Trade school diploma & hold a current and valid North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC certification pertaining to their line of work, to perform maintenance work and repairs on HVAC Equipment, including boilers. The Boiler Technician may be required to preventive and corrective maintenance on various sizes and types of air compressors.\nResponsibilities\nResponsible for the operation and maintenance of domestic-type boilers.\nChecks condition of installations, the correct position of valves and traps, water supply, and grate cleanliness.\nOperates various sizes and types of boilers.\nPeriodically checks, depending on the type of boilers, thermometer, and water show glasses or pressure gauges and boiler-water gauges and adjusts air drafts or boilers, accordingly, adjusts water supply, stokes, or banks fire.\nRemoves cinders and ashes and replenishes fuel.\nInspects heating lines and radiators for defects, releases air from radiators and pipes.\nNotifies supervisor of boiler failures or more serious defects.\nPerforms miscellaneous laborer and cleaning duties as required.\nClean boilers on the furnace and water side.\nInspects, repairs, or replaces shut-off valves, gates, and circulation pumps.\nOpens water heater, inspects, and cleans inside, inspects anodes, and replaces when required.\nRepairs or replaces drain cocks, test cocks and water taps.\nCleans, repairs, or replaces water level gauges and feed-water regulators.\nCleans, repairs, or replaces pressure gauges, hydrometers, air flaps and exhaust gas test equipment when required.\nCleans sump pumps, drains for wastewater, gutters and oil traps, repairs or replaces when required, paints as required.\nPerforms preventive and corrective maintenance on various sizes and types of air compressors.\nPerforms other duties or assignments as required.\nQualifications\nMinimum Qualifications\nEducation/Certifications:\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent, perferred\nMust be qualified per UFC 3-430-07, within six months of employment \nMust possess Valid Driver's License\nExperience\nThree (3) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of domestic type boilers.\nKnowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.\nKnowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.\nSkills\nEffective verbal and listening communications skills.\nMust be able to speack, read, write English\nClient service and public interaction skills.\nAbility to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.\nGeneral knowledge of air compressor maintenance\nMust possess the following PC skills: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.\nWork Environment\nMay be assigned shift work.\nWorks in the F&S boiler plants and work sites.\nApplicants should be aware that some positions/locations could involve working in a potentially dangerous environment.\nThe worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.\nThe worker is subject to hazards.
