Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level.\nThe Team\nAs part of the Plant Operationsorganization, Utah Site Operations manages the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and readiness of Valar's Utah facilities. The team supports safe, reliable site operations while enabling successful project execution.\nThe Role\nWe're seeking an Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of one of the most advanced nuclear and fuel systems ever built. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for guiding reactor and fuel plant operators, managing radiation safety and compliance, and ensuring operational excellence across all systems and shifts. You'll oversee both the reactor plant and the pilot TRISO fuel fabrication facility, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient operation of all site activities-from startup and commissioning through steady-state operation and production. This position is based at the Orangeville, Utah pilot facility, with periodic travel to Valar Atomics' Los Angeles headquarters for coordination, training, and integration with engineering and design teams. At Valar, we believe in shared ownership of the mission, and as Operations Manager you'll model a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of reactor and fuel plant operators, fostering technical excellence and a strong safety culture.\nOversee daily operations of advanced high-temperature reactor systems and TRISO fuel fabrication processes.\nManage radiation protection, safety, and environmental compliance programs in coordination with EHS and regulatory teams.\nDevelop, implement, and maintain operating procedures, training programs, and qualification standards for plant personnel.\nPlan and manage budgets, staffing, and scheduling for operational activities and maintenance.\nSupport commissioning, startup, and performance testing for both reactor and fuel systems.\nMonitor and analyze operational data to ensure efficiency, reliability, and adherence to performance goals.\nCoordinate cross-functional efforts between engineering, quality assurance, and regulatory teams.\nPromote a culture where everyone steps up to meet the most critical needs to ensure safe and successful operation.\nYou Will Be Successful in This Role If\nYou're a hands-on leader with a deep understanding of complex technical systems and process operations.\nYou build and mentor high-performing operational teams, raising the technical capability and safety culture of the group over time.\nYou hold a high bar for safety, precision, and continuous improvement across every shift and every system.\nYou thrive in a startup environment where priorities evolve and collaboration across disciplines is essential.\nYou make sound decisions under operational pressure, balancing throughput, safety, and reliability.\nYou take ownership of the end-to-end operation, from procedures and training through performance monitoring and cross-functional coordination.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in engineering, nuclear technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent military or industry experience.\n5+ years of experience in power plant, nuclear, or advanced manufacturing operations.\nProven leadership experience in operations, maintenance, or production environments.\nStrong knowledge of industrial safety, radiation protection, and quality assurance programs.\nDemonstrated ability to manage budgets, staffing, and operational schedules.\nWillingness to travel as needed to Los Angeles for coordination and training.\nBased in or willing to relocate to Orangeville, UT.\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nBackground in nuclear reactor or fuel fabrication operations.\nFamiliarity with TRISO fuel systems, helium coolant loops, or high-temperature process systems.\nExperience with commissioning, facility startups, or regulatory compliance under DOE, NRC, or equivalent frameworks.\nPrior experience in Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) roles or nuclear operations supervision.\nEqual Employment Opportunity Statement\nValar Atomics is an equal opportunity employer.
