This position owns divisional P&L accuracy and project accounting for each of Valard’s business lines and is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective financial management. It will lead a team of accounting professionals, implement best practices, and support strategic financial planning to drive financial performance.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nOversee all project and divisional accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance\nLead the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes\nOwn divisional P&L accuracy and project accounting for each business line, including job structure set-up, cost control, work-in-progress review, revenue recognition and cost-to-complete forecasting\nStandardize project accounting practices across all business units and hold Business Unit Controllers accountable to consistent standards\nSet quality standards for percentage-of-completion accounting and approve significant estimate-at-completion adjustments\nLead the annual budgeting process and maintain financial forecasts and models \nOwn SOX control accountability\nDirectly manage and develop Business Unit Controllers\nMaintain robust internal controls and mitigate financial risk across the divisions\nAct as a key financial advisor to divisional leadership and senior management\nRequirements\nPost-Secondary Education in Accounting, Finance or a related field\nCPA designation required\n10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role\nStrong knowledge of GAAP / IFRS and construction revenue recognition principles\nDemonstrated expertise with Job Costing Management, Project Analytics and WIP Reporting\nProficiency in financial management and ERP systems (JD Edwards or SAP preferred) and advanced Excel skills\nExperience standardizing accounting practices across multiple business units\nPreferred Skills / Qualifications\nExperience in the utility or construction industry\nAdvanced degree such as an MBA\nBenefits\nWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including a 5% RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.\nAbout our Business\nValard Construction is Canada’s premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
