Students are required to be in Calgary for the duration. Some positions may require travel to active project sites across Canada.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nProject Engineering\nAssist with material and construction specifications for projects\nWork with design packages, material take-offs, and procurement requisitions\nTrack material deliveries, inventory, and documentation\nCoordinate purchase orders, packing slips, and expense submissions\nSupport project schedules, progress reports, and quality records\nAssist with project change orders, including cost and schedule updates\nTechnical support to field teams during construction\nLiaise between project operations and the corporate office\nProject Coordination\nAssist in coordinating staff, resources, and workflows, supporting construction management teams on-site and in the office\nSupport project planning by scheduling tasks, deadlines, and milestones to meet time, cost, and quality objectives\nTrack and report project progress through updates, presentations, and other reporting tools\nFacilitate communication between field staff, design engineers, clients, and other stakeholders\nReview and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to support execution\nMaintain project processes, procedures, and data systems, including inventory management\nSupport multiple departments with scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, documentation, and filing\nPrepare reports, collect documentation, and maintain project records\nEstimating\nAssist with quantity take-offs and pricing, as well as review and validate outsourced estimates\nReview and incorporate historical data from estimates received, contracts awarded by the EPC Contractor and final actual project costs into Valard’s cost model\nFormat estimates in Owners Reporting format\nReview and understand Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate\nPrepare written deliverables for bid submission (i.e. understanding of work, assumptions, execution plans)\nAttend and assist in project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input\nAssist in the development of general and project specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics \nRequirements\nCurrently enrolled in a Post-Secondary Engineering program with at least one semester remaining\nLegally eligible to work in Canada for the full duration of the term\nAvailable for a full 4- or 8- month term starting in January 2027\nUnderstanding of construction drawings, specifications, and related documentation\nAbility to interpret project schedules and timelines\nFamiliarity with project management processes and best practices\nProficiency with standard computer programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation tools\nPreferred Skills / Qualifications\nPrevious experience or exposure to the construction industry\nBenefits\nWe offer a competitive hourly rate, vacation pay and a complete range of employee benefits, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.\nAbout our Business\nValard Construction is Canada’s premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
