Apply now.\nThis position will be located in Building 108 - Soft Square, Small & Mid-size Pole departments.\nSummary:\nThe Production Supervisor is a first-line Supervisor with discipline and drive as essential behavioral traits. A driven individual that will be responsible for safety of all employees being supervised, demonstrates attributes that support first time product quality, exercises sound financial decision making / cost control methods, processing manufacturing steel poles and following planned schedule. This position supervises hourly production employees and interacts with admin as needed.\nThis is an on-site professional exemption salaried position\nStarting pay range Depending on Qualification (LG39): $76,800 - $95,500***\n***There will be an increase to the starting base compensation rate to account for the shift being Graveyard (3rd) shift***\nEligible for annual discretionary bonus\nNight shift schedule: Sunday - Thursday starting at 10PM\nMinimum of 50 hours worked per week. Will occasionally be required to extend scheduled hours, including weekend coverage as needed for critical operational needs. Must be able to facilitate shift overlap with Day shift Supervisor and shift Leads.\nExpected attendance for off-shift meetings upon management request.\nCore Responsibilities:\nAs a supervisor, the candidate should demonstrate active employee engagement by:\nConducting effective every day “stand up-start up meetings”. Start-up meetings are to be utilized to identify if all employees are “fit for duty” that day. An effective supervisor will conduct stretch and flex exercises as part of warming up for the work but also use it to identify if employees demonstrate motion concerns.\n\nEnforcing work hardening policy (Any new hires - direct hire or temps should be only scheduled for 40 hours / week for first 30 days without exceptions.\n\nThe Supervisor will ensure that Valmont safety absolutes are not compromised at any time. In case of a safety infraction (near miss, first aid, recordable, LTI, property damage) supervisors will:\nLead the investigation and demonstrate effective containment actions are in place for all employees to return to their work centers safely.\n\nPresent root cause findings as well as countermeasures (short term as well as long term) to all employees as well as management.\n\nAs a leader over production personnel and work area, Supervisor is to ensure that he / she demonstrates “first time quality - work attitude” by:\nEnsuring that any equipment issues are immediately reported.\n\nOwn the root cause analysis of ANY rejected pole. Perform time sensitive fact finding to make sure repeat rejects (because of same issue) do not occur.\n\nPartner with Quality Supervisor in making sure the correct solution is in place and in case of performance issue from their employees, it is documented with HR.\n\nA successful supervisor is expected to effectively plan their work. Including (but not limited to):\nDaily task assignments. Supervisor is expected to have employee work assignments planed in advance.\n\nPlanning daily schedule and report any schedule concerns.\n\nEssential Functions:\nMonitor employee’s performance to ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed and adhered\n\nImplement and assign work schedules to maximize the utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment\n\nDefine expected production standards, and monitor performance standards of direct reports\n\nObserve personnel to ensure the proper operation of assigned work and equipment\n\nEnsure inspection checks and quality assurance occurs to produce high quality products\n\nPromote a continuous productivity improvement climate that encourages suggestions for operational improvement\n\nAdminister and support company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner\n\nTrain new employees about divisional and organizational activities and safety policies and procedures\n\nPrepares daily time sheets for hourly employees, production summaries, overtime and downtime reports\n\nOther Important Details about the Role:\nThis position reports to the Sr. Operations Manager\n\nThis position will have approximately 25-30 direct reports\n\nMust have thorough knowledge of the equipment and processes in the areas\n\nHold acquired knowledge of planning, organizing, controlling, coordinating, and directing manufacturing personnel\n\nPossess a high level of supervisory capability, which ensures leadership, and motivation of subordinates to attain high standards of quality and productivity\n\nReact to change in a timely and organized manner\n\nEvaluate and weigh alternatives, establish appropriate priorities, and formulate sound decisions affecting all phases of the operation\n\nFoster harmonious relations within their shift and between shifts\n\nAccountable for safety, product quality, exercising cost control, meeting production schedules, the proper uses of direct and indirect labor, accurate record-keeping and reporting, minimizing scrap and rework costs, training new and existing personnel, and communicating with other supervisory and management personnel as well as subordinates\n\nFrequent use of computer terminals and personal computers to perform duties of their position\n\nThorough knowledge and awareness of the safety issues related to each operation performed within the department, and must ensure that all employees adhere to safe practices at all times\n\nUnderstanding of The Valmont Way theory of Lean Manufacturing principles\n\nComputer Software: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and EHS Reporting System, ADP, Workday, Internet Explorer\nRequired Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):\nBachelor’s degree with 5+ years relevant experience or Associate’s degree with 7+ years relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience\n\nFive (5) years of experience in manufacturing or logistics/distribution environment\n\nA strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook\n\nStrong leadership skills and the ability to support divisional business objectives\n\nExcellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills\n\nRead and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals\n\nRecognize and solve practical problems and/or issues\n\nCommunicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner\n\nEffectively interpret and present information both one-on-one and in front of an audience\n\nCan accurately calculate figures such as pay changes for employees, proportions and percentages, and product dimensions\n\nWork in a high volume, fast paced environment\n\nHighly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:\nThree years of experience in a supervisory position\n\nPrevious supervisory experience in a manufacturing and/or fabrication environment\n\nPractical hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing\n\nMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results\n\nWorking Environment and Physical Efforts:\nIn addition to an office setting, the supervisor also spends the majority of his or her time on the production floor as well as outside during all seasons of the year and in the manufacturing areas. The supervisor is expected to wear all necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), as required. This position is exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat and cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris, confined spaces, and working in high areas. Up to 5 percent travel to domestic locations may be required.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the supervisor is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
