This role combines full-stack software development with practical geospatial expertise to support the creation of an intuitive map-authoring application and the integration of geospatial data, databases, and services.\nThe successful candidate will work across the front end and back end, translating complex geospatial data and workflows into reliable, user-friendly capabilities. The ideal candidate understands how geospatial data is structured, stored, visualized, analyzed, and exchanged, and can advise on the formats, schemas, coordinate reference systems, metadata, and interfaces needed to support a sustainable geospatial data library.\nResponsibilities:\nDesign, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain a web-based map creation application with functionality similar to Datawrapper’s mapping tools.\nBuild intuitive user interfaces that allow users to create, configure, style, preview, save, and share interactive maps and geospatial visualizations.\nDevelop front-end components for loading data, selecting geographic fields, applying symbology, configuring labels and map elements, and producing publication-ready map products.\nDevelop back-end services, APIs, business logic, data processing workflows, and persistence mechanisms supporting the application.\nIntegrate the application with geospatial data, databases, APIs, web services, and enterprise systems.\nWork with vector, raster and service-based geospatial data.\nAdvise on appropriate data formats, schemas, projection definitions, metadata standards, and interfaces for the organization’s geospatial data library.\nSupport data ingestion, transformation, validation, quality control, and quality assessment activities.\nWork with spatial databases, including Oracle and PostgreSQL/PostGIS.\nEnsure geometry, topology, attribution, coordinate reference systems, and metadata are preserved and validated.\nImplement and consume REST APIs, OGC services, and other Government or enterprise data services.\nWrite unit, integration, system, and user acceptance tests; troubleshoot defects and performance issues.\nProduce technical documentation covering application architecture, APIs, data models, workflows, configuration, and operational procedures.\nParticipate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, demonstrations, and Agile development activities.\nApply secure software development practices.\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.\nAppropriate Security Clearance\nExperience developing and delivering full-stack web applications.\nExperience with JavaScript or TypeScript and a framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.\nExperience with back-end development using Java, Python, Node.js, or similar technologies.\nExperience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.\nProfessional experience working with geospatial data, GIS, or spatial data services.\nExperience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, or comparable technologies.\nFamiliarity with GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, GeoTIFF, CSV, WMS, WFS, WMTS, or similar formats and services.\nUnderstanding of coordinate reference systems, map projections, spatial reference identifiers, geometry types, topology, metadata, and data quality principles.\nAbility to produce technical documentation and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile environment.\nWillingness to work onsite full time.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, QGIS, or comparable GIS platforms.\nExperience designing thematic maps, choropleth maps, symbol maps, and interactive geospatial visualizations.\nExperience migrating data from Oracle to PostgreSQL/PostGIS.\nExperience with OpenLayers, Leaflet, MapLibre, Mapbox GL JS, GDAL/OGR, GeoTools, or similar libraries.\nExperience with containerization, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and enterprise deployment environments.\nFamiliarity with accessibility, usability, and performance considerations for web applications.\nActive TS/SCI clearance with polygraph, if required by the contract.\nPay Transparency: In support of pay transparency at Vantor, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings.
