Backed by leading global investors, our founding and management team comes with a stellar track record of successfully scaling projects and products to millions of smallholder land stewards at leading Agriculture and tech businesses.\nJob Title: Manager/Senior Manager, Business Development, Biochar\nLocation: Gurugram, India\nFunction: Business Development, Commercial, Strategy\nAbout the Role: We are looking for a highly driven and commercially oriented professional to join our team as Manager/Senior Manager, Business Development, Biochar. This role will be responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing partnerships with industrial players for Varaha’s Biochar/VIPP program.\nKey Responsibilities:\nOriginate & Close Partnerships: Identify, develop, and close partnerships with industrial players across agri-processing, FMCG, metals, ceramics, textiles, and other relevant sectors for Varaha’s VIPP Program.\nCXO & Stakeholder Relationships: Build relationships with industrial founders, promoters, CFOs, and senior decision-makers and manage partnerships through the deployment lifecycle.\nDeal Structuring & Negotiation: Structure technical, commercial, and legal terms covering CAPEX, revenue models, operations, rights, deployment structures, and other partnership considerations; lead negotiations through closure.\nFinancial Modelling: Build financial models covering IRR, NPV, payback periods, savings, project economics, and other relevant metrics to support partner pitches and internal investment decisions.\nIndustry Analysis: Deep-dive into target industries to understand operations, fuel mix, cost structures, operational challenges, and decarbonisation needs, and tailor Varaha’s proposition accordingly.\nDue Diligence: Evaluate DPRs, feedstock availability, plant economics, operational assumptions, and other commercial considerations for potential JVs, acquisitions, and deployment opportunities.\nPolicy & Market Intelligence: Track government schemes, industry developments, global decarbonisation trends, and emerging market requirements to identify new business opportunities.\nCross-functional Execution: Work closely with engineering, carbon/MRV, legal, finance, and operations teams to move opportunities from initial discussions and term sheets through contracting, deployment, and commissioning.\nBusiness Development: Travel extensively across industrial clusters to build industry relationships, generate referrals, source new deals, and identify potential partners and business opportunities.\nExhibitions & Industry Events: Represent Varaha at trade exhibitions, conferences, industry forums, and other relevant industry platforms to build the company’s network and generate commercial opportunities.\n0→1 Business Building: Identify new opportunities within sustainability and decarbonisation, develop the business case, and independently drive promising ideas from concept to launch.\nIdeal Candidate Profile:\n1-2 years of experience in early-stage startups, preferably in business development, growth, commercial, strategy, or deal-oriented roles.\nMBA from a Tier-2 or above business school, with strong commercial orientation and demonstrated ability to drive outcomes.\nExperience in B2B business development, partnerships, sales, deal-making, or commercial roles, preferably involving high-value or complex transactions.\nPrior experience building or operating a startup/business independently will be highly valued.\nStrong understanding of financial modelling, including ability to work with IRR, NPV, payback, savings, and project economics.\nStrong commercial acumen and ability to engage effectively with founders, promoters, CXOs, CFOs, and senior business stakeholders.\nStrong negotiation, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.\nHighly proactive and comfortable with 0→1 problem-solving, ambiguity, and ownership in a fast-paced startup environment.\nComfortable with frequent travel across industrial clusters, customer sites, exhibitions, and industry events.\nStrong analytical skills with the ability to understand industry economics, identify commercial opportunities, and translate insights into actionable business propositions.\nNice-to-have experience in biochar, climate tech, carbon markets, renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation, agriculture, sustainability, or project development.\nWhy Join Us?\nThis is an opportunity to take ownership of a high-impact business development mandate at the intersection of industrial decarbonisation, biochar, and carbon removal.
