This platform is built on scalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilities that support reusable solutions across the enterprise.\nThe Software Engineer II (SE II) role is a fully productive, professional engineer responsible for designing, building, and delivering software solutions with independent ownership and execution accountability. This role contributes directly to platform development by building backend services, APIs, and system components that support scalable, high-performing digital experiences.\nImpact of the Role\nDelivers scalable services and features that power Varsity Brands’ digital platform\n\nImproves engineering velocity and system reliability through high-quality development practices\n\nContributes to platform consistency, reuse, and performance across engineering teams\n\nSupports the transition to scalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilities\n\nDrives adoption of shared platform capabilities through consistent, reusable service development\n\nWHAT YOU WILL DO:\nDesign, develop, and maintainbackend services and APIs aligned to platform architecture\n\nOwn end-to-end delivery of features, from design through deployment and support\n\nTroubleshoot and resolve production issues, identifyingroot causes and implementing solutions\n\nApply testing, performance optimization, and secure coding practices\n\nContribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and system reliability improvements\n\nCollaborate with Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver solutions\n\nParticipate in technical design discussions and contribute to solution approaches\n\nProvide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers (including SE I)\n\nDesign components and services within established architecture, making independent technical decisions within defined patterns\n\nKey Performance Indicators\nSuccess in this role will be measured through:\nOwnership and delivery of features and services\n\nCode quality, scalability, and performance of delivered solutions\n\nReduction in defects and production incidents\n\nContribution to team productivity and engineering practices\n\nEffectiveness in cross-functional collaboration and delivery\n\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities\nThe ideal candidate will demonstratethe following capabilities:\nTechnical Knowledge\nStrong understanding of backend systems and service-based architecture\n\nWorking knowledge of cloud environments and distributed systems\n\nUnderstanding of system design principles and data modeling\n\nTechnical Skills\nProficiencyin Java and backend development frameworks\n\nAbility to:\n\nDesign and build RESTful APIs\n\nOptimizesystem performance and scalability\n\nImplement testing strategies and debugging techniques\n\nExperience working with CI/CD pipelines and production systems\n\nCognitive & Problem-Solving Abilities\nSolves moderately complex technical problems independently\n\nNavigates ambiguity within defined domains\n\nDiagnoses root causes and implementseffective solutions\n\nCollaboration & Influence\nCollaborates effectively with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA)\n\nContributes to team-level improvements and engineering practices\n\nProvides guidance and support to junior engineers\n\nExecution & Ownership\nDemonstrates accountability for end-to-end delivery outcomes\n\nBalances speed, quality, and reliability in execution\n\nEducation, Certification and Experience\nRequired:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience\n\n2-5+ years of professional software engineering experience\n\nPhysical Demands and/or Work Environment\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
