Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations of the College by preparing accounting worksheets, performing account analysis, assisting with monthly closing activities, and providing general support to the Finance team.\nThe Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with members of the Finance team and budget managers across the College to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly recorded. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an accounting or finance professional to contribute to the College’s financial operations while working in a collaborative and service-oriented environment.\nThe successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.\nMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.\nThree to five years of related accounting or finance experience, or recent college graduate with relevant education and experience.\nDemonstrated ability to independently manage ongoing projects, programs, or assignments.\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.\nAbility to prepare accounting worksheets, reports, and other financial information accurately and ensure amounts reconcile to appropriate source documentation.\nAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.\nAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.\nAbility to provide professional and courteous customer service and project a positive image of Saint Mary’s College.\nAbility to organize and prioritize work while completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner.\nPreferred QualificationsPrevious experience in a higher education, nonprofit, or institutional finance environment.\nExperience assisting with monthly financial close processes and preparation of journal entries.\nExperience performing account reconciliations and analysis and identifying potential adjusting journal entries.\nExperience working with budget managers to review and reallocate expenses.\nStrong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with financial data and spreadsheets.\nDemonstrated ability to learn new financial systems, processes, and procedures.\nAbility to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative Finance team.\nStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.\nDemonstrated commitment to providing responsive, professional, and service-oriented support to colleagues across the College.\nEssential Job FunctionsAssist the Finance team with monthly closing activities, including preparation and entry of journal entries.\nPerform account analysis and identify and propose appropriate adjusting journal entries.\nPrepare and maintain accounting worksheets, reports, reconciliations, and related financial documentation.\nWork with budget managers to review and facilitate the reallocation of expenses as needed.\nAssist with various accounting and clerical functions in support of the Finance team.\nRespond to telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner, answer questions when appropriate, direct calls to the appropriate individual, or take accurate messages.\nMaintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.\nComplete assigned tasks, projects, and special assignments accurately and within established timelines.\nProvide professional and courteous service to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.\nPerform other duties and projects as assigned.\nScheduleFull-time, Monday through Friday, during regular College business hours.\nContract Term: This is a one-year limited-term position.
