Reporting to the Senior Director, Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting, this role will be highly hands-on, owning the preparation and execution of SEC filings and technical accounting analyses while also managing one direct report. \nThis role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys operating in the details, partnering cross-functionally, and helping build processes in a growing public biotechnology company. \nEssential Functions:\nSEC Reporting (Hands-On Execution) \nOwn the preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K \nPrepare and/or review primary financial statements, footnotes, and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements \nDraft and support MD&A disclosures, with emphasis on R&D, G&A, stock-based compensation, and other pre-revenue biotech-specific areas \nCoordinate the quarterly close-to-reporting process across Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and external auditors \nSupport earnings release tie-outs and disclosure controls \nTechnical Accounting \nSupport technical accounting assessments and documentation for complex transactions, including: \nCollaboration, licensing, and R&D-related arrangements \nEquity and equity-linked financing transactions \nOther complex and other non-routine transactions \nResearch new accounting standards and SEC guidance; assess applicability and implementation impact \nDraft clear, well-supported technical accounting memos and communicate conclusions to stakeholders \nStrong experience in ASC 842, including the identification, classification, and accounting of lease arrangements, as well as the preparation and review of related disclosures in compliance with U.S. GAAP\nPeople Management \nManage and mentor one direct report, providing coaching, review, and development support \nReview work products to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to timelines \nFoster strong execution discipline and continuous improvement within the reporting function \nProcess Improvement & Scaling \nHelp design and enhance scalable SEC reporting and technical accounting processes as the company grows \nPartner with cross-functional teams to ensure accounting and reporting considerations are incorporated into business decisions \nSupport SOX and internal control documentation related to SEC reporting and technical accounting as applicable \nRequirements: \nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred with a minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including: Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm strongly preferred) and/or direct SEC reporting experience at a public company. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.\nStrong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nHighly detail-oriented with strong execution skills\nComfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment\nStrong ownership mindset with the ability to balance deadlines and quality\nCollaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented \nAbility to work onsite 3 days per week required; and more often based on business needs. \nLocation: San Carlos, CA\nWork Arrangement (may be adjusted based on business needs, job responsibilities, or changes to company policy): Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)\nCompensation:\nThe compensation package will be competitive and includes comprehensive benefits and an equity component.\nSalary Range: $184,000 - $215,000 (SF Bay Area).
