The Coordinator leads a team of Relational Security Officers and Relational Security Supervisors (RSO/RSS) and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards. The Coordinator leads the development of policy and departmental education and training programs, encompassing best practice and organizational policy and values.\nAs a Relational Security Coordinator with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:\nProvide leadership and guidance to a designated team of staff using effective management techniques, coaching and mentoring employees, conducting performance evaluations, creating a learning environment that promotes and supports professional growth of all employees; leads recruitment activities and makes hiring, and discipline decisions.\nPromote a safe and healthy working environment by implementing trauma-informed care practices, Indigenous cultural safety and humility, and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.\nEngage with diverse residents, patients, clients, and families using active listening, compassion, and building trust to create a respectful environment.\nLead in the development and implementation of departmental education program and training, encompassing current best practice for staff. Performs training facilitation and conducts education program evaluation ensuring training needs are met.\nManage the procurement of supplies, ensure proper coding and budget alignment, and maintain inventory of uniforms and equipment.\nConduct departmental investigations, implement findings, and participate in quality improvement meetings.\nCoordinate and provide guidance to contracted security services during emergencies.\nEstablish and update Guidelines and Protocols for security access based on role responsibility and criteria.\nMaintain relationships with external contracted service providers and addresses operational and client relations issues on behalf of the health authority.\nCollaborate with the Integrated Protection Services Team to ensure effective partnership and coordination.\nParticipate in and review budget, department planning and policy development in collaboration with the Manager, including short and long-term operating budgets, and financial and human resources allocation across operations to meet service needs and fiscal mandates.\nCarry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.\nPerform other related duties as assigned.\nThis work is aligned with VCH’s people-centred values and focused on advancing Indigenous Cultural Safety, anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion.\nQualifications\nEducation & Experience\nCollege diploma in a related discipline such as criminal justice or business administration, supplemented with a minimum of five (5) years of recent security and fire prevention/protection experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.\nValid Basic Security Training (BST) and Advanced Security Training (AST) certifications preferred.\nValid BC Driver’s license as local area travel within the geographic VCH area requires the use of a vehicle.\nKnowledge & Abilities\nDemonstrated knowledge of violence prevention, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed care.\nDemonstrated familiarity with Indigenous cultural safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.\nStrong leadership and managerial skills in a complex environment.\nStrong leadership and team development skills to effectively lead and develop teams.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with partners both internally and externally to the organization.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for efficient documentation and communication.\nProven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members and stakeholders.\nDemonstrated commitment to client-focused services and a collaborative teamwork approach.\nAbility to foster a motivating and respectful work environment, and lead, mentor and motivate employees to achieve their full potential.\nEffective communication skills to interact with individuals in a distressed state of mind and provide necessary support.\nAbility to work collaboratively with stakeholders and interdepartmental teams at all levels of the organization.\nStrong organizational skills to effectively manage workloads, delegate tasks, and prioritize responsibilities.\nCompetency in operating related equipment relevant to the position.\nDemonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.\nPhysical ability to perform the duties of the position.\nClosing Statement\nAs per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
