You provide technical leadership, coaching and guidance to mechatronic engineers, while helping to further develop the controls and automation engineering competence within the organization.\nKey Area of Responsibilities:\nTake ownership of the controls, automation and motion-control scope within development projects and provide technical leadership to mechatronic engineers.\nAnalyze customer, product and system requirements and translate these into control architectures, software requirements and implementation strategies.\nSupport early project phases by evaluating concepts, defining technical scope, identifying technical risks and developing engineering effort estimates.\nDefine software architectures, machine operating sequences, state machines and motion-control concepts.\nLead the development of PLC, HMI and motion-control solutions using platforms such as Beckhoff TwinCAT, Python and MATLAB.\nLead the development and implementation of factory automation solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency, quality and operational performance by working closely with our manufacturing and assembly teams. \nLead the design and development of test, validation and qualification equipment used for product qualification in our factory.\nDefine and verify motion-control performance related to accuracy, stability, repeatability and throughput.\nSupport system integration, commissioning, validation and qualification activities.\nCollaborate with mechanical, electrical, software and system engineers to develop integrated machine solutions.\nCoach and mentor engineers in PLC programming, motion control, software engineering and engineering best practices.\nContribute to the development of mechatronics engineering standards, development methodologies and competence growth within the organization.\nRequirements\nBachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Systems & Control Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline.\nApproximately 10 years of experience in industrial automation, machine control, motion control or mechatronic system development.\nExtensive experience with PLC programming and HMI development for industrial equipment, preferably Beckhoff TwinCAT (Structured Text).\nKnowledge of EtherCAT-based system architectures is an advantage.\nExperience with software engineering practices, including version-control systems such as Bitbucket or Git.\nStrong experience with motion-control systems, servo systems and high-precision machine automation.\nExperience with simulation, debugging and performance analysis using tools such as Python, MATLAB, Simulink or equivalent.\nExperience developing or supporting test, validation and qualification systems is highly desirable.\nExperience with semiconductor equipment, precision engineering systems or other high-tech capital equipment is preferred.\nStrong systems-thinking capability, analytical problem-solving skills and a passion for machine automation and motion control.\nStrong communication and stakeholder-management skills.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3780,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Manufacturing","Semiconductor Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-28T03:37:20Z"}],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":5,"expected_fill_days":65,"reasons":["conf:4","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-02T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/vdl-enabling-technologies-group-lead-mechatronics-design-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/vdl-enabling-technologies-group-lead-mechatronics-design-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-03T04:08:39Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4196,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":804,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-04T00:00:00Z"}}}
