Our culture values integrity, ownership, personal leadership, sound judgment, teamwork, curiosity, and the willingness to step up when something important needs to get done.\nWhy This Work Matters:\nThe Joint Events Coordinator helps ensure NGB J5-J is prepared, represented, and organized across strategic exercises, major events, and operational activations.\nThis role supports the planning, coordination, and documentation needed to keep leadership informed and ensure National Guard priorities are captured throughout exercise development, execution, and follow-up. By maintaining visibility into schedules, decisions, action items, and lessons learned, the coordinator helps J5-J turn events into useful outcomes rather than one-time activities.\nDay-to-Day Responsibilities:\nCoordinate J5-J participation in strategic-level exercises and major events, including Vigilant Guard and NGCC activities\nTrack exercise schedules, planning milestones, rehearsals, and participation requirements\nAttend planning meetings, in-progress reviews, final rehearsals, and other coordination events as directed\nCapture discussions, leadership decisions, action items, and follow-up requirements in clear meeting minutes\nPrepare After-Action Reports following exercises, events, and real-world activations\nMaintain calendars and trackers for relevant joint training, exercise, and operational events\nCommunicate upcoming requirements and ensure staff members are prepared for key engagements\nSupport coordination with interagency partners and Combatant Commands as required\nHelp ensure National Guard equities are documented during exercise planning, execution, and evaluation\nMonitor NGCC activation support requirements and help coordinate information flow during response operations\nIdentify scheduling conflicts, coordination gaps, or unresolved actions that may require leadership attention\nRequired Education and Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field\n4+ years of experience supporting joint exercises, operational planning, event coordination, or a related federal or military environment\nExperience developing meeting minutes, summaries, After-Action Reports, or other fast-turn documentation\nStrong organizational and coordination skills\nActive Secret clearance\nPreferred Education and Qualifications:\nMilitary or civilian training in exercise planning, facilitation, or emergency operations\nExperience supporting National Guard, DoD, or homeland defense exercises\nExperience in crisis operations centers or interagency coordination environments\nPreferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:\nFamiliarity with large-scale homeland defense and DSCA exercises\nUnderstanding of exercise planning timelines, milestones, and documentation requirements\nAbility to produce clear, accurate, and timely summaries and reports\nStrong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple schedules and requirements simultaneously\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nAbility to work effectively across military, civilian, interagency, and external stakeholder groups\nKnowledge of National Guard missions, governance structures, and interagency engagement practices preferred\nProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and related collaboration tools\nStrong ownership and follow-through, particularly when tracking actions and unresolved requirements\nAbility to adapt quickly when event schedules, leadership priorities, or operational requirements change\nWhat Success Looks Like:\nSuccess in this role means J5-J leaders and staff know what is coming, what is required, and what resulted from each major exercise or event.\nThe right person will keep schedules, decisions, action items, and lessons learned organized and visible.
