This position sits at the intersection of strategic communication, leadership engagement, public trust, and mission visibility. Through clear, accurate, and compelling communication, the Public Affairs Specialist helps ensure command priorities and accomplishments are understood while strengthening connections with personnel, stakeholders, the media, and the public. This role helps the command communicate with purpose in both routine and high-pressure environments while protecting credibility and building confidence in the mission and the people behind it.\nDay-to-Day Responsibilities:\nDevelop, write, edit, and publish news releases, feature stories, newsletters, speeches, social media content, and other communication products in accordance with Navy Public Affairs guidance and Associated Press style.\nProvide professional photography, videography, audio production, and multimedia support for command events, ceremonies, and official activities.\nManage and maintain command websites, social media platforms, digital signage, web calendars, and other communication channels to ensure timely dissemination of information.\nDesign and produce promotional materials, brochures, invitations, programs, flyers, presentations, and other visual communication products using Adobe Creative Suite.\nCollaborate with command leadership to develop communication strategies that promote mission objectives and enhance engagement with internal and external stakeholders.\nSupport crisis communication and emergency response efforts by serving as a Public Affairs representative, coordinating media activities, and providing timely information during incidents.\nCoordinate audiovisual support and event setup for command ceremonies, public events, and leadership engagements.\nRespond to public and media inquiries while providing professional customer service and maintaining effective relationships with Government personnel and external organizations.\nPreferred Education/Degree:\nBachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Political Science, or a related field.\nPreferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:\nMinimum of two (2) years of experience in public affairs, communications, journalism, or media relations, preferably supporting the Department of Defense or U.S. Navy.\nExperience developing communication plans, news releases, newsletters, speeches, feature stories, brochures, and digital content for multiple audiences.\nProficiency in professional photography, videography, digital imaging, podcast production, and multimedia editing.\nExperience managing websites, social media platforms, digital signage, and other electronic communication channels.\nProficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Audition.\nStrong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.\nFamiliarity with the Associated Press Stylebook, U.S. Navy Style Guide, and Navy Public Affairs policies and procedures.\nExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively represent the command in both routine and crisis communication environments.\nKnowledge of Navy operations, shipbuilding, or ship maintenance environments is highly desirable.\nVECTRONA IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER AND A DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE.\nThe above information has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
