As part of our workforce, you can do what you do best, every day. \nLearn more about our recruitment process.\nJob Requisition ID:\n2026-02804Time Type:\nFull timeEmployee Group:\nStaffJob Category:\nFood and Culinary ServicesEmployment Type:\nTemporaryDepartment:\nFood Services - Employee RelationsHiring Range:\n$51,306.48 - $64,133.10Posting Information:\n This posting is for an existing vacancy.\nThe internal posting deadline for this position is Thursday October 1st, 2026, at 11:59PM.\nTerm 8 Months\nDrivers abstract is required from the successful applicant\nJob Description:\nPrimary Purpose\nAssist with the management of one or more UW Food Service units, consistent with departmental objectives, University policies, procedures and CUPE 793 Collective Agreement.\nKey Accountabilities\nAssist with development and deployment of people resources\nAssist with hiring, training, motivating and performance management of full-time and part-time hourly staff within assigned unit(s). \nEnsure that areas of the business are covered with the necessary number of staff and the correct skillset.\nAssist with the scheduling of part-time and student employees.\nPromote student employment on campus.\nAssist with day-to-day operations\nTake initiative to carry out assigned duties with minimal supervision.\nEnsure all health, safety, sanitation, maintenance standards and franchise agreements are met.\nSupervise the preparation of all products in an efficient manner to handle daily requirements; ensure all food prepared is of the highest quality, and overproduction is kept to a minimum to avoid waste.\nOversight of licensed events as required\nAssist with supply ordering, inventory control, cash controls and security of all storage and servery areas.\nEnsure proper turnover of food and material minimizing waste.\nMay be required to work in other UW Food Services units as needed.\nIn the absence of the Manager/Supervisor, oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned unit(s).\nFulfill Administrative duties in a timely and accurate manner\nIn close cooperation with the department administrative office, and as directed, handle a variety of tasks of an administrative nature. This will include creating payroll records for employee’s shifts, charge vouchers, cheque requests, invoices, vacation schedules, sick leave and other duties as assigned.\nFinancial Responsibilities\nEvaluate financial reports and take corrective action where necessary.\nContribute to the delivery of a positive customer experience\nProvide input into continual improvement in customer flow, unit appearance, product merchandising, messaging, marketing materials and unit atmosphere.\nMaintain high customer service levels by initiating improvement tactics training and coaching staff as needed.\nInteract with customers to handle a variety of customer service issues. \nWork with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy when dealing with students, guests, staff and faculty.\nAssist in the implementation of new menu items and promotional materials.\nAssist as needed in planning, controlling and execution of special projects, renovations and program introductions.\nActively participate in departmental and other related committees as needed.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nA diploma in Food and Beverage management or equivalent work related experience\nSmart serve certified\nExperience\nSeveral years’ recent experience in hotel, quick service or institutional food service environment.\nExperience supervising in a unionized environment and working with student employees.\nInventory and cash controls, food and labour cost control and providing exceptional customer service. \nExperience in supervising food preparation an asset\nKnowledge/Skills/Abilities\nProven ability to work with a minimum of supervision in a fast paced, customer oriented environment.\nExcellent motivator with highly developed interpersonal, organization and communication skills (written and oral).\nProficient in the use of common computer software programs \nValid G class driver’s license\nEquity Statement\nThe University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples.
