Contract end date, August 31, 2027.\nJob Description:\nPrimary Purpose\nThe position serves as an educational development resource for faculty and academic partners, providing expertise in teaching, learning, course design, assessment, and educational technologies. The role supports the development of effective, inclusive, and evidence-informed teaching practices through consultation, faculty development programming, applied research, and participation in institutional teaching and learning initiatives.\nTeaching Support and Innovation (TSI) exists to promote and advance teaching quality and ultimately enhance student learning at the University of Waterloo.\nAbout TSI’s Digital Learning team\nIn alignment with institutional priorities and needs, the Digital Learning team works collaboratively with instructors to design and develop new online courses, programs, and digital learning materials while supporting the continuous improvement and maintenance of existing offerings.\nFocus and unique aspects of role Educational Consultants (Digital Learning Design) lead digital development projects from planning through completion and contribute expertise in the following areas:\ninstructional design and user experience design\nshould have familiarity with digital pedagogy skills such asaccessibility and Canadian copyright regulations\n\nproject management, including the ability to lead a project team, and balancing the triple constraints of project scope, timelines and resource availability\n\nKey Accountabilities\nPedagogical and Instructional Support\nAdvise instructors on course design, assessment, and teaching practices using established frameworks and best practices\nSupport the application of pedagogical approaches across a range of disciplines\nGuide instructors in aligning learning outcomes, activities, and assessment strategies to support course design\nProvide consultation and practical guidance on teaching and learning practices, approaches, and resources.\nAdapt and tailor teaching and learning resources and tools to meet instructor and program needs\nFaculty Development\nOrganize/develop and lead University-wide workshops and training sessions on core teaching and learning topics\nProvide one-on-one and small group consultations to instructors to support teaching development.\nContribute to faculty development programming through the design and facilitation of learning experiences for instructors.\nContribute to the systematic evaluation and enhancement of learning offerings to ensure effectiveness, relevance and impact.\nCourse and Courseware Design\nGuide the development and revision of course materials and assessments\nProvide consultation and support to instructors on the effective use of learning management systems and educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning.\nIntegrate inclusive and accessible design principles into initiatives in collaboration with academic partners\nParticipate in course design projects, contributing subject matter expertise in teaching, learning, and educational development.\nResearch and Evidence-Informed Practice\nApply established teaching and learning research to practice\nEngage in applied research and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement and evidence-informed decision-making\nPerform data collection, analysis, and reporting\nStay current with emerging trends in higher education pedagogy\nProjects and Institutional Initiatives\nContribute to projects and institutional initiatives related to teaching and learning\nSupport implementation activities, including resource development and coordination\nParticipate in working groups and collaborative initiatives\nTrack progress and provide updates on assigned work\nCollaboration and Supervision\nBuild and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.\nCollaborate with colleagues to support the achievement of team and organizational objectives.\nServe as a resource to peers on learning.\nContribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nMaster’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Higher Education, or related discipline) or equivalent combination of education and experience\nExperience\n4-6 years of experience in educational development, instructional design, or teaching in a post-secondary environment\nExperience applying established pedagogical principles in course or curriculum design\nExperience supporting or advising instructors in a developmental or consultative capacity\nExperience facilitating workshops or training sessions\nTeaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset\nKnowledge/Skills/Abilities\nStrong understanding of teaching and learning principles in higher education\nEffective communication and interpersonal skills\nWorkshop facilitation and presentation skills\nOrganizational and project coordination skills\nAbility to work both independently and collaboratively\nProficiency with learning management systems and educational
