We design and build the systems and hardware the lunar economy will come to depend on - rovers, power, and data networks for sustained operations on the Moon. We are focused on the problems that must be solved before the next chapter of human exploration can scale. The Moon does not forgive untested assumptions. The people who work here know that, and they wouldn't have it any other way.\nAs an Avionics Engineer at Astrolab, you will serve as the Responsible Engineer for avionics units on our planetary rovers, owning hardware from requirements definition through qualification, integration, and operation on the lunar surface. Ownership at Astrolab spans make and buy alike: for some units, the right answer is selecting a COTS component or partnering with an external vendor on a custom product, and for others it is designing the board in-house. You will make that call, and you will own the result either way. This posting covers entry-level through staff-level positions, and leveling will be commensurate with experience.\nWhat you'll do:\nUnit Ownership: Serve as Responsible Engineer for avionics units across applications including Command & Data Handling, Guidance Navigation & Control, power, motor control, and communication systems, from concept through build, qualification, flight integration, and operations\nMake/Buy & Component Selection: Lead make/buy trades for avionics units. Identify, evaluate, and qualify COTS components against mission requirements, including radiation, thermal, and reliability considerations for the lunar environment\nVendor Management: Work with external vendors to specify, develop, and deliver custom avionics products. Define requirements and interface control documents, review vendor designs, and drive delivery schedules and technical issues to closure\nDesign & Development: Design in-house avionics hardware where it is the right answer, including component selection, design analysis, schematic capture, circuit board design, board bring-up, debugging, and design documentation\nAnalysis & Trades: Conduct system-level trades, power efficiency and signal integrity analysis, worst-case analysis, and FMECA to ensure avionics units are robust, fault-tolerant, and meet mission requirements\nQualification & Test: Develop and execute test campaigns to qualify units for spaceflight, bringing components through vibration, shock, TVAC, EMI/EMC, and radiation testing. Partner with test engineers on test plans and coverage\nIntegration: Interface with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and test engineers to ensure seamless subsystem integration, and support vehicle-level integration, troubleshooting, and failure investigations\nWhat you'll bring:\n Basic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) related field\n1+ years of experience in avionics component design, spacecraft systems design, or electronics integration and test \nExperience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and logic analyzers \n Preferred Qualifications\nExperience evaluating, selecting, and qualifying COTS electronics for space or other harsh environments, including screening, up-rating, and lot acceptance approaches \nExperience managing external vendors or suppliers through custom hardware development, including requirements definition, ICDs, design reviews, and acceptance \nExperience with digital communication protocols including RS-422, RS-485, SPI, I2C, CAN, or Ethernet \nExperience with power systems design for spacecraft, including LDO regulators, buck/boost converters, battery systems, and grounding schemes for high-voltage systems \nExperience with FPGA and MCU embedded systems design. Motor controller experience is a plus. \nExperience with analysis and design tools such as LTspice, MATLAB, Python, Altium, E3, or Siemens NX \nExperience with radiation effects and mitigation strategies, EEE-INST-002 parts classification and derating, and failure modes of spaceflight electrical components \nExperience with SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810, or other environmental testing standards, including shock, thermal, burn-in, TVAC, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing \nFor senior and staff levels: experience owning avionics units end-to-end as a Responsible Engineer, leading make/buy decisions, and mentoring engineers through design and qualification campaigns \nBenefits and Perks\nJoin a team of best-in-class engineers building the foundation of planetary surface exploration\nEquity ownership in the company\nComprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and mental health support\n401(k) plan with company match\nFlexible PTO and parental leave\nWeekly lunch stipend, plus complimentary snacks and beverages on-site\nOnce a month social hour on-site with food and drinks","description_format":"text","description_chars":4840,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":1,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Parental leave"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Aerospace Manufacturing","Space Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-15T22:11:46Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":12,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.415,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":40,"expected_fill_days":13,"reasons":["conf:2","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-25T05:49:26Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":230000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/venturi-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/venturi-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-25T19:53:56Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":28092,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-26T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":176589},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=176589"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fventuri-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fventuri-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fventuri-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/venturi-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fventuri-astrolab-avionics-engineer-all-levels"}]}
