Position Purpose:

Responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining a variety of moderately complex to complex instrumentation and electrical equipment to include control systems, sensors, analyzers, electrical motors, pneumatic instrumentation, programmable controllers, etc. to ensure optimum performance of machines and associated equipment. Adheres to all health, safety, and compliance requirements in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Repair and replace electric motors.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical issues using diverse testing equipment to ascertain root causes of malfunctions.
  • Disassemble electrical devices to access and replace defective components, subsequently reassembling and testing for optimal performance.
  • Repair and/or replace functional parts of control instruments, demonstrating proficiency in interpreting instructions and diagrams for troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to equipment failure analysis.
  • Configure and inspect preventative equipment, including emergency generators, waste feed cutoff testing, and analyzer gas equipment, to ensure adherence to facility safety protocols.
  • Calibrate stack analyzers, pH probes, and low flash oxygen analyzers; replace oxygen filters and gas cylinders and adjust regulators.
  • Identify, repair, and replace damaged wiring, including removal from the Integrated Wiring System (IWS).
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits up to 480 volts.
  • Operate, program, and/or replace Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Demonstrate competence in utilizing loop and reference drawings.
  • Safely energize and de-energize 480 switchgears while adhering to arc flash safety requirements.
  • Exhibit proficiency with process meters and diagnostic tools, such as insulation testers, milliamp drivers, pressure simulators, temperature meters, and ohm meters.
  • Demonstrate fundamental understanding of hydraulic systems for the effective repair of internal limits, directional valves, and proximity switches associated with such systems.
  • Execute repairs on various lighting equipment across the facility, including 120, 277, and 480V systems.
  • Comprehend fundamentals and perform maintenance on 4160V three-phase motors under supervision.
  • Adhere to established lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Execute diverse electrical tasks as part of a preventative maintenance program.

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Electrical/Mechanical skills preferred
  • Prior work experience of 2 years in a related position preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong customer orientation

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
