Headquartered in Boston, Veolia has more than 10,000 employees working at more than 350 locations across North America.\n Position Purpose:\nThe Operator I operates and maintains sludge, dewatering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment\nin refinery/industrial facility to separate feed stocks to contract specifications and return to client/designated\nlocation.\nPrimary Duties/Responsibilities:\nPerform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures and practices.\nCommitment to promoting and creating a safety culture and positive work environment.\nModel professional behavior; report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to work.\nWork a 12 hour rotating shift schedule that will include nights, weekends, holidays.\nMust consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets.\nMust demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate, maintain, install, and repair equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.\nMonitor control panels, adjusts valves and gates.\nMonitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned areas.\nMonitor and document operating conditions/observations and data in shift log daily\nDiagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per procedure.\nVerify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor or designee and take corrective actions.\nAbility to work independently in compliance with given instructions and direction.\nPerform grab and go field tests in order to adjust chemical dosages for processes.\nComply with appearance and dress policies to ensure a safe and professional work environment.\nWear personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy, work practices, and customer.\nMaintain a safe, neat and clean work environment this includes: work area and equipment.\nCare for and maintain buildings and grounds.\nMust demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.\nWork Environment:\nWork in loud, cold, hot, wet and dry environments; both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather.\nFrequent sitting, standing, and walking around the job site; stepping over curbs, climbing ladders, stairs, potentially slippery/uneven surfaces, kneeling and crawling to access work areas.\n Education/Experience/Background:\nHigh School diploma or GED\nSome experience in a related position and environment preferred.\nMust demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control\nSome experience in a related position and environment preferred.\nKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:\nMust have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.\nMust demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.\nMust be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.\nRequired Certification/Licenses/Training:\nMust possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.\nMust be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.\nPhysical Requirements:\nOccasional kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lbs and up to 100 lbs with assistance.\nFrequent manual labor and use of hand tools for maintenance activities; shovels, brooms, pipe wrenches, air operated tools, pressure washers, water hoses.\nOccasional operation of heavy equipment; forklift, passenger trucks.\nPerforming all tasks listed while wearing Personal Protective Equipment: hard hat, coveralls, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe leather/rubber boots.
