Headquartered in Boston, Veolia has more than 10,000 employees working at more than 350 locations across North America.\n Position Purpose:\nThe Operator works to maintain the wastewater treatment process at the facility and the integrity of the collection system through rounds, laboratory testing, preventative maintenance, and utilization of digital softwares. The Operator will participate in an on-call rotation to ensure coverage outside of regular eight hour shifts.\nPrimary Duties/Responsibilities:\nMonitors treatment process and associated equipment via in person and remote inspection.\nCollects and analyzes wastewater, solids, and sewage samples for permit compliance and process control.\nRecords plant data in written logs and digital softwares.\nPerforms preventative and emergency maintenance for plant and collections system.\nParticipates in on-call rotation for weekend/holiday and off-hours coverage.\nAssists sub-contractors, engineers, and outside personnel with upgrades, repairs and connections.\nAssists with maintenance of building and grounds (landscaping, plowing, cleaning, painting, trash removal etc.)\nComplies with MA DEP regulations.\nEnsures safety standards are met.\nWork Environment:\nSpends 100% of the time in operations environment. \nWill need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties.\nPossible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work environment temperatures, slippery surfaces, biological hazards, loud noises and electrical equipment.\n Education/Experience/Background:\nHigh School education/GED with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).\nAssociate's/Bachelor’s in a science or technical area strongly preferred.\nOne to five years of experience in a related position with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of wastewater treatment preferred.\nKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:\nMust have the ability to perform basic math equations.\nMust demonstrate ability to efficiently operate equipment such as pumps (water, sludge chemical), engines, motors, generators, valves/gates, mixers, blowers, belt presses, and laboratory equipment.\nMust have the ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems and perform basic troubleshooting.\nMust be able to use computer, learn related programs/applications for data entry and process control.\nMust demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.\nMust demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including gas detectors, confined space equipment, gloves, glasses, etc.)\nMust be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.\nMust be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.\nRequired Certification/Licenses/Training:\nAbility to obtain wastewater license as required by facility permit within defined period of hire.\nIntermediate level wastewater treatment license preferred.\nMust possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.\nWill be required to attend approved classes and/or events as part of upholding license.\nCDL Class B with Tanker Endorsement preferred.\nMA Hoisting Engineer 2A/1B preferred.\nMA Wastewater Grade 3 or higher preferred.\nPhysical Requirements:\nAmount of time spent - Standing 25%, Walking 75% for as many as five miles per shift.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. \nThe employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, climb, crouch and enter confined spaces. \nWill be required to use ladders or stairs.\nThe employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally more with team assistance/lifting equipment).\nSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
