This hands-on engineering role focuses on building scalable test automation frameworks, reusable tools, and automated test solutions that enable teams to deliver high-quality Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) product. You will partner across Software Engineering, Product, DevOps, Verification, and Quality teams to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle while helping accelerate innovation that positively impacts patients' lives. \nResponsibilities \nDesign, develop, and maintainscalable test automation frameworks, libraries, tools, and reusable components using modern software engineering practices. \nDevelop and maintainautomated tests for REST APIs, backend services, microservices, integrations, databases, business workflows, and end-to-end user scenarios. \nDefine and implement automation approaches spanning component, contract, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing. \nIntegrate automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines to provide rapid and actionable feedback. \nImprove the reliability, maintainability, scalability, and diagnostic value of automated test suites. \nMonitor and continuously improve test health by addressing flaky tests, unstable environments, coverage gaps, and execution inefficiencies. \nDevelop tooling and utilities for test data management, service virtualization, mocks, simulators, fixtures, and environment management. \nInvestigate automation and product issues across applications, APIs, databases, cloud services, containerized environments, integrations, and deployment pipelines. \nPartner closely with software engineers to improve application testability and establisheffective automated test strategies. \nCreate reusable frameworks, documentation, examples, and best practices that enable product teams to develop and maintaintheir own automated tests. \nParticipate in design and code reviews with a focus on quality, reliability, maintainability, and testability. \nEstablish and promote standards for automation architecture, reporting, diagnostics, and framework design. \nEvaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI-assisted capabilities, to enhance test automation efficiency and coverage. \nCollaborate with Software Verification and Quality teams to support regulated verification activities and generate appropriate testevidence when required. \nPerform exploratory or manual testing when it provides greater value or supports product risk assessment. \nWho You Are \nWe are looking for someone who combines a strong software engineering foundation with a passion for quality, automation, and continuous improvement. Supported by Veracyte's values of being stronger together, seeking a better way, caring deeply, and making it happen, you'll help drive both technical excellence and positive impact. \nRequired Qualifications \nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. \n6 - 7 years of experience in software quality engineering, software development, or test automation engineering. \n5+ years of hands-on experience developing automation solutions using C#, Java, Python, TypeScript, or comparable programming languages. \nDemonstrated experience designing, building, and maintainingtest automation frameworks and reusable testing tools. \nProven experience testing enterprise-scale web applications, REST APIs, backend services, microservices, integrations, and cloud-native systems. \nStrong software development skills, including object-oriented design, modular architectures, debugging, code reviews, version control, and automated quality practices. \nExperience automating APIs, databases, distributed systems, and backend services. \nExperience implementing automated testing within CI/CD platforms. \nHands-on experience testing cloud-native applications in containerized and cloud environments. \nStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. \nExcellent written communication, collaboration, and technical documentation abilities. \nExperience working effectively in Agile software development environments. \nPreferred Qualifications \nStrong experience developing automation frameworks within the .NET ecosystem. \nExperience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern cloud-based testing environments. \nExperience with contract testing, service virtualization, automated test data generation, mocks, and simulators. \nExperience automating non-functional testing, including performance, resilience, reliability, and security testing. \nExperience leveragingAI-assisted technologies for automation development, maintenance, or failure investigation. \nExperience developing or testing Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) or other regulated software products. \nFamiliarity with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and software validation practices. \nExperience producing automated test results suitable for regulated verification activities. \nExperience in healthcare, diagnostics, genomics, laboratory systems, or other regulated industries. \nExperience mentoring engineers and influencing engineering practices across teams. \n#LI-Hybrid, or #LI-Remote\nThe final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.\nPay range\n$1—$2 USD\nWhat We Can Offer You\nVeracyte is a growing company that offers significant career opportunities if you are curious, driven, patient-oriented and aspire to help us build a great company.
