The successful candidate will provide support for analysis of large and complex data sets related to cancer and will bring specific domain knowledge and experience to empower research and development of our tools and products.\nIn collaboration with R&D and production team members, the Senior Scientist candidate will engineer high-quality tools for genomic sequence data analysis to develop new products or improve existing offerings, all while adhering to Veracyte’s state of the art software engineering methodologies. The successful candidate will be an essential team player in the effort for significant optimization of our growing genomic data analytic platform. This entails working cross-functionally with data scientists, clinical analysts, software engineers, and business analysts to ensure our genomic data becomes a powerful asset and value growth driver. Specifically, the candidate will participate in the design and prototyping of processing pipelines and algorithms for data analysis to improve clinical performance and optimize critical systems. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to see the big picture, understand user needs and requirements, and identify the opportunities for applying solutions from bioinformatics, algorithms, and data science domains.\nResponsibilities\nAnalyze next-generation sequencing data ranging from single research experiments to very large data sets reaching correct conclusions based on rigorous mathematical analysis and principles of statistics and probability.\n\nResearch and develop novel deep & machine learning architectures, statistical algorithms and mathematical models for application in genomics within a Python-based infrastructure.\n\nLead the design and development of data specification standards and data science business processes\n\nCollaborate effectively with R&D, production, and clinical teams to build pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data\n\nEnsure internal processes and metrics are aligned to create the highest product quality and competitive advantage\n\nProduce clear, concise and correct technical documentation including research reports and algorithm specifications\n\nGenerating ideas to improve existing technology and drive future technology\n\nWho You Are:\nExperience and Qualifications\nMaster’s degree / PhD or Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience in engineering, computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, or similar, with a strong foundation in probability theory and/or statistics.\n\nKnowledge of bioinformatics tools, clinical diagnostics workflows or genetic processes \n\nExpertise in scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems for knowledge and insights extraction from data\n\nExtensive knowledge in the domains of machine learning, signal processing and related quantitative techniques and theory\n\nProficient in Python, bash and scripting fundamentals, including file parsing and data visualization\n\nExperience with cloud computing technologies (AWS preferred).\n\nExperience with data management in a regulated environment - a plus\n\nKey attributes\nIndependent self-management and organizational skills in setting and executing rapidly changing priorities.\n\nEntrepreneurial, driven to create and to be impactful team player\n\nStrong attention to detail demonstrating accuracy and consistency in tracking and reporting data\n\nEagerness to acquire new skills in areas such as databases, statistics, and genetics\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication\n\nAbility to evaluate and apply new technologies in a short time\n\n #LI-Hybrid, or #LI-Remote\nThe final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.\nPay range\n$1—$2 USD\nWhat We Can Offer You\nVeracyte is a growing company that offers significant career opportunities if you are curious, driven, patient-oriented and aspire to help us build a great company.
