Bartender

Main duties:

Veranda Tamarin is looking for a skilled, energetic and guest-focused Bartender to join our Food & Beverage team.

As a Bartender, you will be responsible for preparing and serving beverages to our guests while ensuring excellent service, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation, and contributing to the smooth operation of the bar.

• Prepare and serve cocktails, beverages and snacks according to established hotel standards.
• Welcome guests warmly and provide attentive, efficient service.
• Take guest orders promptly and ensure proper follow-up.
• Be knowledgeable about all cocktail recipes and beverage offerings.
• Prepare the daily mise en place and ensure the bar is ready for service.
• Propose and promote the cocktail of the day and other bar products.
• Identify upselling opportunities and promote bar items appropriately.
• Interact with guests to obtain feedback and suggestions.
• Handle guest complaints professionally and report them to the relevant supervisor.
• Present guest bills and ensure they are properly signed or paid.
• Accurately post transactions into the relevant system.
• Monitor bar stock levels and prepare requisitions for timely replenishment.
• Check daily requisitions and ensure adequate supplies are available.
• Handle bar equipment, glassware and materials carefully to minimise breakages.
• Assist with inventories and ensure stock is properly controlled.
• Maintain a clean and organised bar counter, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
• Ensure bottles are properly displayed and glasses are clean and polished.
• Follow all bar opening and closing procedures.
• Attend daily departmental briefings and comply with the assigned roster.
• Maintain the required grooming and personal presentation standards.
• Participate in training and apply the knowledge gained.
• Support and motivate colleagues when required.
• Keep the supervisor informed of any unusual matters or issues affecting the bar.
• Ensure responsible use of electricity, gas and water.
• Comply with the hotel's sustainability commitments and practices.

Qualifications

• School Certificate (SC) or equivalent.
• Professional training in Food & Beverage would be an advantage.
• 
  

Experience

• Minimum 2 years' work-related experience in Food & Beverage, preferably in a bar environment.
• Previous hotel experience would be an advantage.
• 
  

Skills & Competencies

• Good knowledge of cocktails, beverages and bar service.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Friendly, professional and outgoing personality.
• Good attention to detail and presentation.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle guest requests and complaints professionally.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Knowledge of a third language would be an advantage.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Commitment to hygiene, cleanliness, safety and sustainability standards.
