This role is central to our engineering infrastructure, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the server-side systems that power our mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a proven ability to operate within classified environments. This is a hybrid position requiring on-site presence 2-3 days per week.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nDesign, develop, and maintain backend functionality within applications using Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Opensearch and PostgreSQL\nDevelop and maintain backend services and REST APIs, including request validation, error handling, and authentication and authorization integration\nUse Pydantic for data validation and SQLAlchemy for database access and object-relational mapping in Python services\nDesign and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, and database migrations, with attention to performance and data integrity\nBuild and maintain Docker images and deploy, configure, and troubleshoot applications in OpenShift\nInvestigate and resolve production issues across the user interface, backend services, database, and application deployment\nWork with customers, product owners, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, identify dependencies, and estimate implementation effort\nParticipate in technical design and code reviews, write automated tests, and maintain technical documentation\nMentor developers and collaborate with operations and security teams to support reliable application delivery\nWhat You’ll Bring:\nA bachelor’s degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience, and a master’s degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience\n9 Years of experience in software or systems engineering or a highly related field of work with similar scope and responsibilities\nTS/SCI Clearance with Active CI Polygraph\nStrong experience developing backend services and REST APIs\nExperience developing and maintaining backend applications and services using Python\nProficiency with PostgreSQL, including relational data modeling, SQL, schema migrations, indexing, and query optimization\nUnderstanding of OpenSeach data structures, indexing, and querying\nHands-on experience with Docker, including writing Dockerfiles, building images, and troubleshooting containers\nStrong communication skills and the ability to translate business and customer needs into clear technical requirements\nPreferred:\nDeep expertise of Python and API design\nFamiliarity with Software development within the Department of War\nFamiliarity with Linux environments and Kubernetes concepts\nExperience configuring CI/CD pipelines and automating application deployments\nExperience improving application security, accessibility, performance, and reliability\nExperience working in an Agile development environment and coordinating with product, operations, and security teams\nSalary Range:\n$160,000 - $185,000\nBenefits:\nFlexible Work Environment \nPaid Parental Leave \nMedical \nDental \nVision \nLife and AD&D Insurance \nShort-Term and Long-Term Disability \n401(k) with Company Match \nPaid Time Off + Holidays\nVerdantas strives to develop new ways to increase diversity awareness within our organization.
