This position will be responsible for the engineering, administration, availability, performance, and lifecycle management of Verisign’s Enterprise VMware virtualization environment\nThe Ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure engineer with strong VMware experience who can independently troubleshoot complex issues, perform platform upgrades and lifecycle and lifecycle activities, and help evolve the virtualization environment as technologies and business requirements change.\nThis role will work closely with an experienced VMware engineer during a knowledge-transfer period to develop a deep understanding of the existing environment operational practices, architecture, and business-critical workloads.\nResponsibilities:\nEngineer, administer, maintain, and support enterprise VMware virtualization infrastructure\nManage VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, vCenter clusters, networking, storage connectivity, and associated virtualization technologies\nMonitor platform health, capacity, performance, availability, and utilization and proactively address potential issues\nTroubleshoot complex virtualization, server, storage, networking, and application infrastructure issues\nPlan and execute VMware upgrades, patching, hardware refreshes, migrations, and lifecycle-management activities\nSupport the transition and modernization of the VMware environment, including changes associated with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and evolving VMware/Broadcom technologies\nParticipate in architecture and engineering decisions related to virtualization and private-cloud infrastructure\nDevelop automation to improve provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and operational efficiency\nMaintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and disaster-recovery documentation\nWork closely with storage, network, backup, security, operating-system, and application teams to support highly available enterprise services\nParticipate in incident response, root-cause analysis, change management, and problem management\nIdentify opportunities to improve resiliency, redundancy, performance, security, and operational efficiency\nProvide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers and serve as a subject-matter expert for virtualization technologies\nParticipate in an on-call rotation and provide support for critical infrastructure incidents as required\nRequirements:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience \n5+ years technical infrastructure experience \nSignificant hands-on experience supporting VMware vSphere environments in a production enterprise environment\nStrong experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter Server\nExperience managing VMware Clusters, High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Schedule (DRS), vMotion, and related technologies\nExperience with enterprise server hardware and lifecycle management\nUnderstanding of enterprise SAN/storage concepts and VMware storage integration\nStrong understanding of enterprise server hardware and lifecycle management\nUnderstanding of Enterprise SAN/storage concepts and VMware storage integration\nStrong understanding of networking concepts as they relate to virtualization, including VLANs, virtual switches, distributed switches, and network redundancy\nExperience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues spanning compute, storage, networking, and operating systems\nExperience performing VMware upgrades, migrations, patching, and platform lifecycle activities\nExperience with scripting or automation technologies such as PowerShell/PowerCLI, Python, or similar tools\nStrong technical documentation and communication skills\nAbility to independently manage technical projects and operational responsibilities with limited supervision\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)\nExperience with VMware NSX and software-defined networking\nExperience with VMware Aria products or other infrastructure monitoring and automation platforms\nExperience supporting large-scale, highly available or business critical virtualization environments\nExperience with Dell PowerEdge or comparable enterprise server platforms\nExperience with enterprise SAN technologies and storage platforms\nFamiliarity with backup, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, and business-continuity technologies\nExperience with infrastructure-as-code, git-based configuration management, or other automation frameworks\nFamiliarity with alternative virtualization or private-cloud technologies is a plus\nThis position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.\nThe pay range is $108,900 - $147,300.\nThe anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience.
