As a Network Operations Engineer, you will provide technical expertise on a critical role involving network transformation, network outages, service issues, network optimization, and maintenance. You will be responsible for providing support to keep things running smoothly and change the way that our customers live, work, and play. We are a 24x7 highly visible Operations environment that performs troubleshooting, configuration changes, drive issues to resolution, and related functions.\nPerforming optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network systems and applications to identify overall system availability and performance.\n\nEvaluating network coverage to find gaps, making recommendations to improve coverage, and helping to implement those recommendations.\n\nPerforming triage, fault isolation, and remediation of network events.\n\nGenerating, driving, and updating problem-tracking tickets via multiple systems and continuously improving business practices.\n\nEscalating issues to the appropriate internal/external engineer teams for resolution.\n\nBeing the first one to encounter and solve a problem is enjoyable to you. You’re great at following an established process or procedure to complete tasks. Experience navigating and working well at all levels in a fast-paced, ever-changing network environment. You are dependable and enjoy supporting the rotational needs of a technical environment.\n\nWhat we’re looking for...\nYou’ll need to have:\nAssociate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.\n\nThree or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.\n\nWillingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.\n\nHands-on experience at the packet-optical boundary, including OTN tributary mapping (ODU0/ODU2/ODU4), coherent DWDM transport (100G/400G), and the integration of IP/MPLS services over optical infrastructure.\n\nExperience troubleshooting cross-layer faults, tracing packet-layer symptoms to physical layer root causes, and to coordinate restoration across optical and IP domains.\n\nFamiliarity with how optical circuit faults correlate to packet-layer service impact. Ability to recognize symptoms at the IP layer (BGP session drops, traffic reroutes) that originate from underlying DWDM or OTN impairments, and to communicate effectively with operations teams during joint troubleshooting.\n\nEven better if you have one or more of the following:\nA technical degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline.\n\nKnowledge of telecommunications equipment and technologies like Telephony Switching, Data Communications and Network Routers.\n\nExperience with vendor platforms that support converged packet-optical architectures preferred.\n\nComputer support experience, including troubleshooting PC hardware and configurations.\n\nVendor management experience.\n\nIf Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.\nWhere you’ll be working\nIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager.
