Join the #VTeamLife.\nWhat you’ll be doing...\nIn the role of Principal Engineer of Software Development, you will provide technical leadership for the design and implementation of complex, scalable software solutions primarily using Java Spring Boot and React. You will mentor technical teams and develop high-quality, robust applications that meet critical business needs within our evolving Customer Experience Platform (CXP) and FiOS Order management platform. You will leverage your full-stack expertise to build robust and scalable solutions while actively participating in the Agile development process.\nResponsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:\nLeading the design and development of large-scale, distributed systems.\n\nImplementing high-quality software solutions using Java and Spring Boot.\n\nWorking with API management platforms, Apigee, to design, develop, and secure APIs.\n\nUtilizing Kibana for monitoring, analyzing, and visualizing application logs and performance metrics.\n\nManaging and collaborating on code using GIT version control.\n\nProviding technical guidance to the team, establishing best practices, coding standards, and development processes\n\nImplementing robust build and deployment automation (CI/CD) practices.\n\nPartnering with enterprise architects, product managers, and business stakeholders and translate complex requirements into technical designs.\n\nIdentifying and addressing performance bottlenecks to optimize application speed and scalability.\n\nDemonstrating strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.\n\nWhat we’re looking for…\nYou’ll need to have:\nBachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.\n\nSix or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.\n\nExperience with Java and the Spring Boot framework, including deep knowledge of its ecosystem.\n\nExperience with JavaScript/TypeScript and the React framework and related tooling.\n\nKnowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, microservices, and RESTful API design.\n\n Even better if you have one or more of the following:\nExperience with software development with a significant focus on backend and frontend technologies.\n\nExperience with designing, and implementing complex, scalable, and high-performance web applications and distributed systems.\n\nKnowledge of API Gateways, security gateways, and modern authentication/authorization patterns.\n\nExperience mentoring technical teams.\n\nExperience working in an Agile development environment.\n\nExperience with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins).\n\nExcellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.\n\nMaster’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.\n\nExperience with FiOS domain and order manager\n\nExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), including containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).\n\nExperience with messaging/streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, SQS, Kinesis, RabbitMQ).\n\nExperience with caching technologies (e.g., Redis).\n\nKnowledge of web security principles and best practices.\n\nIf Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.\nIf you believe this job posting is missing information required by the Virginia wage or salary range transparency law, please report it via .\nWhere you’ll be working\nIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager.
