By continually advancing our technology, we ensure that every frame-whether live or months old-is always available instantly, seamlessly, and securely.\nAbout the Role\nAs an Embedded Engineer (Video Streaming), you will design and implement streaming features that power our 1M+.4M deployed cameras (and next generation cameras). You’ll collaborate with firmware, backend, and native client teams to build and own a highly performant streaming capture experience for live and history videos. At the same time, you’ll help make our firmware components more efficient, secure and future-proof.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign, develop, and optimize embedded video encoding and streaming pipelines for Verkada’s camera and security devices.\nImplement and tune hardware-accelerated video codecs (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1) for performance, quality, and low power consumption.\nBuild and extend multimedia frameworks (e.g., GStreamer, FFmpeg) to support real-time video capture, processing, and delivery.\nIntegrate and optimize streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) for low-latency, reliable video transport at scale.\nProfile and optimize startup time (TTFF), latency, rebuffering, and overall video QoE metrics.\nDebug issues in encoding pipelines, transport layers, and device utilization (CPU/GPU/ISP).\nWhat You Bring\nBS or MS degree in Computer Science (or similar degree).\n5+ years of professional experience in embedded systems development, with a focus on video streaming applications.\nProficiency in C/C++ for embedded Linux environments.\nMust be willing and able to work onsite five days per week.\nNice to Have\nStrong hands-on experience with video codecs (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1) and hardware-accelerated encoding/decoding pipelines.\nFamiliarity with multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer, FFmpeg, or custom video pipelines.\nSolid understanding of video streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) and adaptive bitrate streaming.\nExperience optimizing for low latency and startup time (TTFF) under constrained resources.\nUS Employee Benefits\nVerkada is committed to fostering a workplace environment that prioritizes the holistic health and wellbeing of our employees and their families by offering comprehensive wellness perks, benefits, and resources.
