Vertiv is an American company that supplies the power and cooling infrastructure data centres depend on, formed in 2016 when Emerson Electric sold its network power division to Platinum Equity. Its products cover uninterruptible power supplies, switchgear and busway, precision air and liquid cooling, racks and the monitoring software that runs them, sold to hyperscale operators, colocation providers and enterprises. Headquartered in Westerville, Ohio and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it has become one of the most direct beneficiaries of artificial intelligence build-out because dense computing requires liquid cooling it already makes.

Vertiv is seeking a technically strong Manufacturing Engineer to join our STL Austin manufacturing team. This role will have a strong focus on brazing, thermal processes, metal joining, process development, and production support.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing processes involving brazing, metallurgy, soldering, heat treatment, thermal processing, heat exchangers, or similar metal-joining and thermal technologies.

Brazing experience is highly preferred, but not required. We are open to engineers with a strong technical background in metallurgy or related joining and thermal processes who can apply that knowledge to brazing and Vertiv's thermal-management products.

This position serves as the on-site manufacturing engineering owner for process execution and performance at the STL facility. You will work closely with Production, Quality, Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, and suppliers to develop robust processes, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, improve product quality, and support new product introduction and production ramp.

What You'll Do

Brazing & Thermal Process Engineering

  • Develop, optimize, troubleshoot, and sustain brazing and other thermal manufacturing processes.
  • Establish and optimize process parameters including temperature, time, atmosphere, materials, joint design, fixturing, and other critical process variables.
  • Investigate brazing and joining defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Evaluate joint quality, process capability, repeatability, and long-term process stability.
  • Work with metals, filler material to ensure manufacturing processes produce consistent and reliable results.
  • Support development and qualification of new brazing and thermal processes, equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to establish appropriate inspection, testing, and process-control methods.
  • Troubleshoot production issues directly on the manufacturing floor and develop sustainable solutions.

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), production ramp, process validation, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Develop standard work, work instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Design and improve fixtures and tooling used to support brazing, assembly, testing, and production.
  • Partner with Design Engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and process improvements.
  • Conduct and maintain PFMEAs, control plans, process documentation, and other manufacturing quality tools.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to identify opportunities to improve yield, cycle time, scrap, quality, and process capability.

Production Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to production and troubleshoot manufacturing problems in real time.
  • Work directly with operators and production leadership to identify and eliminate process issues.
  • Use Lean and continuous improvement methodologies to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Support automation, equipment, tooling, and process improvements where applicable.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance and drive corrective actions when processes are not meeting expectations.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with Vertiv quality systems and applicable engineering and manufacturing standards.

Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and suppliers.
  • Support implementation of standardized manufacturing processes and technologies.
  • Provide feedback to Global AME regarding process performance, technology gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support site-level manufacturing projects and ensure successful implementation of new processes, equipment, and tooling.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production engineering, materials, or process engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and improve manufacturing processes in a production environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work hands-on with production teams and equipment.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Brazing
  • Metallurgy / Materials Engineering
  • Welding or metal joining
  • Soldering
  • Heat treatment
  • Thermal processing
  • Heat exchangers
  • Cold plates
  • HVAC / refrigeration manufacturing
  • Thermal management products
  • Aluminum, copper, stainless steel, or other metal fabrication
  • Joining of dissimilar metals
  • Manufacturing process development
  • NPI / production ramp
  • Process validation and qualification
  • Fixture and tooling development
  • PFMEA / Control Plans
  • Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement

Candidates with strong metallurgy, welding/joining, thermal-processing, or related manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not have direct brazing experience.

Why This Role

This is not a traditional desk-based Manufacturing Engineering role. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to own and improve real manufacturing processes, work directly with production, and solve technically challenging problems involving metals, joining, thermal processes, tooling, and product manufacturability.

You will play a key role in helping Vertiv scale and stabilize manufacturing processes for products supporting the rapidly growing data center and thermal-management markets.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to work in a light manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment and thermal processing operations.

TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • None
