With $6.9 billion in sales, a strong customer base and global reach spanning nearly 70 countries, we are uniquely positioned to deliver greater value to our customers and create new opportunities for our people.\nWe are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bologna, Italy!\nPOSITION SUMMARY\nThis role is part of the Mechanical R&D and Industrialization team and is responsible for the mechanical development and industrialization of new power converters, with a particular focus on the mechanical integration of liquid-cooling solutions. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, from definition of the mechanical architecture and cooling-system interfaces to detailed design, prototype build, validation, production readiness, and release to manufacturing. The role combines mechanical design expertise with a practical understanding of thermal-management integration, materials, manufacturing processes, assembly methods, cost, quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements to deliver robust, safe, and manufacturable solutions.\nThe role works closely with electrical engineering, product management, compliance, sourcing, quality, suppliers, manufacturing, and service teams to translate product requirements into effective mechanical solutions, resolve technical issues, and support a smooth transition from concept to serial production.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nDevelop the mechanical architecture of new power converters, translating product and system requirements into robust design solutions.\nCreate and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, bills of materials, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.\nDesign sheet-metal parts, structural frames, busbar supports, liquid-cooling interfaces and components, component mountings, enclosures, and assembly solutions, considering accessibility, sealing, routing, maintainability, and safe integration with electrical equipment.\nSelect materials, manufacturing technologies, tolerances, fasteners, and joining methods based on performance, cost, quality, and production-volume requirements.\nApply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles to improve product quality, repeatability, serviceability, cost, and assembly time.\nPerform mechanical calculations and tolerance analyses and support structural, thermal, seismic, transportation, and other relevant design verifications.\nParticipate in design reviews, DFMEA, risk assessments, and technical decision-making throughout the product development process.\nPlan and support prototype builds, laboratory tests, design verification, and product validation, including leak, pressure, flow, thermal-performance, coolant-compatibility, and serviceability testing where applicable, and implement corrective actions based on test results.\nLead the mechanical industrialization of new products, including assembly-process definition, tooling and fixture requirements, work instructions, pilot builds, production readiness, and ramp-up support.\nCollaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to assess process capability, resolve producibility issues, and qualify components and production solutions.\nSupport root cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues identified during development, qualification, production, or field operation.\nEnsure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and industry standards.\nManage product data and design changes within the product lifecycle management system, ensuring configuration and documentation accuracy.\nCommunicate progress, technical risks, open issues, and proposed solutions to project stakeholders and management.\nQUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS\nDegree in mechanical engineering or similar fields.\nAt least three years of experience in mechanical design and product development within an electromechanical environment, ideally involving power converters or other power electronics equipment.
