Piping Engineer - Subject Matter Expert
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Piping Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership for piping systems within High Density Liquid Cooling. This role will define standards, support delivery teams, and help ensure robust, compliant, and reliable engineering outcomes.
The position is focused on high-performance piping systems associated with liquid cooling and secondary fluid networks, with particular emphasis on stainless steel, composite materials, and specialist component design.
Working across concept, design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning, you will provide independent technical oversight and drive standardisation to reduce risk, variation, and rework.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for piping systems, materials, and components
- Develop and maintain piping standards, specifications, and design guidance
- Review key engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and material selections
- Support project teams through design, procurement, manufacture, installation, and commissioning
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including ASME and PED requirements
- Lead technical investigations, problem-solving, and continuous improvement activities
- Engage with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and site teams to ensure design intent is achieved
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to wider engineering teams
- Drive initiatives with speed, precision, discipline
Requirements
- Substantial experience in piping or mechanical engineering within industrial or process environments
- Proven ability to design and specify piping systems, materials, joints, and associated components
- In depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as ASME B31 and PED requirements
- Detailed experience with stainless steel and composite piping systems in clean environments
- Good understanding of fabrication, welding, inspection, and technical documentation review
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and project teams
- Demonstrated problem-solving capability and experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in data centre, liquid cooling, or other high-reliability environments
- Working knowledge of secondary fluid networks and Coolant Distribution Units
- Good understanding of piping connection methods including welded, flanged, grooved, and mechanical joints
- Practical experience with piping stress analysis, FEA, or component-level design
- Background within mission-critical, regulated, or safety-critical industries
Education
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status
- Relevant training or demonstrated competence in applicable piping codes and standards
