The Thermal BU's portfolio spans the complete thermal chain from chip to atmosphere, including room cooling, in-row cooling, rack cooling, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, coolant distribution units (CDUs), rear-door heat exchangers, chillers, dry coolers, and trim coolers. Operating across all major regions (Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific), the Thermal BU serves hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and edge data center customers with solutions optimized for increasingly high-density AI and high-performance computing environments. Within this business unit, the Advanced Development group is responsible for incubating next-generation thermal technologies and proving their viability before transitioning them to NPDI teams for productization. This role sits at the forefront of that mission, driving innovation in emerging thermal architectures that will define Vertiv's competitive position in the rapidly evolving data center cooling market.\nRoles and Responsibilties:\nConduct advanced development tasks to inform NPDI teams designing new cooling systems for high density computer rooms.\nCollaborate across the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, as well as production and offering teams. Work with these teams for design reviews, meeting cost metrics, and brainstorming around customer pain points.\nPerform a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to verify design requirements, which may include stress calculations, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.\nPerform CFD and/or 1D modeling and analysis to evaluate and optimize cooling system architectures, balancing thermal performance, energy efficiency, physical footprint, manufacturability, and total system cost.\nDevelop solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists - the use of ingenuity and creativity is regularly required.\nDevelop prototypes to support advanced product design. \nPlan and oversee proof-of-concept testing, then utilize the results to validate or modify designs, control methods, and analytical models.\nCompile reports and design guidelines.\nScout technologies that could be implemented into Vertiv cooling systems. Sources could be suppliers, university researchers, startup companies, etc.\nSupport Vertiv activities with University-Industry collaborations. \nInteract with employees, outside vendors and suppliers as needed. \nOther Duties as assigned\nEducation and Requirements\nBachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or directly related degree at minimum.\nAdvanced Degree preferred.\nMin 7-10 years of experience. \nDemonstrated record of meeting deadlines and project goals\nUnderstanding of electrical schematic and pneumatic drawings (P&ID)\nUnderstanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics\nAbility to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment independently and/or as a member of a dynamic team;
