This person will perform engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the ideal candidate will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures.\nIndividual will support U.S. government agencies (US Navy, US Military Sealift Command (MSC), US Coast Guard, MARAD, NOAA, etc.) by performing various classification and certification services for surface vessel. Individual will need to be U.S. Citizen. Must have or be able to attain a security clearance.\nWhat You Will Do:\nUnder the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of ship structural plans and stability analyses as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations and contract commitments.\nPrepared first principal calculations or using computer aided engineering tools to predict the structural integrity of the vessel.\nPerform classical stress calculations, finite element stress analysis, and fatigue analysis. \nUse of finite element modeling techniques, primarily FEMAP for finite element model development and NASTRAN finite element solution. \nPrepare technical reports and work with other engineers to find resolutions to problems. \nMaintain the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects to ABS standards.\nImplements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.\nPrepared calculations by hand or using computer aided engineering tools to predict the structural integrity of the vessel. \nWhat You Will Need:\nEducation and Experience\nB.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. may be preferred.\n0 to 5 years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society.\nDemonstrated computer literacy in engineering software; experience in software related to stability such as GHS, NAPA, or other equivalent software required.\nDemonstrated experience in performing stability analyses in accordance with relevant Rules and Regulations. \nExposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research).\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nKnowledge of related technical disciplines required.\nThe ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem solving skills).\nGood command of the English language.\nAbility to communicate orally and in writing.\nAbility to work well with others.\nFamiliarity with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems (internal candidates only).\nAbility to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.\nIt Would Be Nice If You Had:\nProfessional or chartered engineer license.\nReporting Relationships:\nThe incumbent reports to a senior level engineer or technical manager.
