As part of our collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you’ll help shape a more sustainable and resilient energy future by supporting projects that advance the evolving energy landscape.\nIn this role, you’ll serve as a technical lead on complex civil site development challenges for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. You’ll apply thoughtful design, environmental stewardship, and coordinated permitting to develop practical, implementable solutions. Energy Evolution Practice | VHB\nResponsibilities\nCollaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop civil engineering plans, specifications, and supporting documents for energy infrastructure and related land development projects.\nManage, mentor, and support the professional growth of junior staff, providing technical guidance, quality oversight, and opportunities to build project delivery experience.\nSupport site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control design, incorporating project requirements and site constraints.\nPrepare engineering drawings and design models using AutoCAD Civil 3D.\nConduct field visits independently or with team members to document existing conditions, collect measurements, and capture site photographs and other relevant information.\nEvaluate field data, survey information, and engineering calculations to inform design decisions.\nAssist with land development approvals and permitting documentation, coordinating technical inputs with the project team.\nPrepare technical reports and design calculations that clearly communicate engineering approaches and support regulatory review.\nCoordinate across disciplines to integrate civil design with environmental considerations and overall project objectives.\nSkills and Attributes\nStrong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to communicate technical information clearly.\nA collaborative mindset and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks while staying connected to team priorities.\nInterest in the evolving energy sector and the role of civil engineering in delivering sustainable, resilient infrastructure.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a thoughtful approach to site-specific design challenges.\nExperience with or exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.\nExperience with or exposure to stormwater analysis and design software, such as HydroCAD, StormWise (ICPR4), StormCAD and FlowMaster, or similar tools.\nA proactive approach to learning, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.\nAbility to organize assignments, respond to feedback, and coordinate deliverables with the project team.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.\n5+ years of relevant energy civil engineering or land development experience.\nPrior experience with site grading, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control design.\nProfessional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.\nThe full-time annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 if located in Virginia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.\nAnnual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
