Projects are expected to begin in November and last for up to 12 weeks or more. For projects located outside of the greater Atlanta area, hotel room accommodations and meals will be reimbursed. Field vehicles and transportation to survey areas will also be provided. Preference will be given to those candidates who currently reside in the Southeast.\nResponsibilities\nConduct Phase I archaeological fieldwork, including pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and field data recording of soils, artifact finds, and site resources. \nAssist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of data using handheld GPS units; Survey123 and Field Maps App.\nWork closely with project team under the supervision of VHB archaeologists.\nWell-qualified candidates may serve as Crew Chiefs or Field Directors as needed\nSkills and Attributes\nExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills \nTeam oriented with strong capability to work independently\nMotivated to lead and mentor others\nQualifications\nA bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field\nAt least six (6) months field experience with a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, and excavation, and monitoring preferred\nCompletion of an accredited field school or equivalent experience\nExperience working as a field archaeologist. Experience in the Southeastern United States preferred. \nExperience with the application of standard archaeological field and laboratory techniques\nValid driver’s license\nAbility to travel to a location, walk/hike and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies.\nMust be able to carry field equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods\nThe hourly pay range for this position, located in Atlanta, GA, is $22.23 to $24. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.\nAnnual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package.
