The successful intern candidate will learn technical skills and computational software programs necessary to assist in the completion of transportation projects throughout the state and northeast region.\nPosition is open for summer 2027.\nResponsibilities\nCollaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner.\nAssist engineers with creation of construction documents utilizing CAD and BIM software.\nPerform structural analysis, design, and detailing tasks as assigned by senior structural engineers.\nPrepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports.\nDesired Skills and Attributes\nStrong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate design both internally with VHB staff and externally with clients and other design professionals.\nExhibits initiative and high attention to precision and accuracy while completing assigned tasks.\nAble to follow instructions on timelines of deliverables, seek guidance when needed, and escalate issues appropriately if required.\nIntroductory knowledge of design of structural systems using various materials such as steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber.\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, etc).\nLimited experience in structural analysis, drafting, and design development tasks at various project stages.\nQualifications\nCurrently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited program with a focus in structural coursework\nFamiliarity with drawing production software and BIM software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, and Revit is a plus.\nFamiliarity with structural analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, Ram Structural System, Enercalc, SAP2000, etc is a plus.\nThe hourly pay range for this position, located in New York, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only.
