We’re inspiring a generation of engineers to solve complicated automation problems with our uniquely powerful suite of software tools.\nWe’re a ~100-person company headquartered in New York City.\nAbout the Role\nRemote, with travel to events \nWe’re looking for a Senior Developer Advocate to help more developers discover Viam, understand what’s possible with the platform, and start building with it. \nIn this role, you’ll build creative software and hardware projects, turn those projects into content and experiences others can learn from and try themselves, and represent Viam across developer communities through events, workshops, and online engagement.\nProjects can span a wide range of ideas-from a robotic arm that sorts objects or a computer-vision-powered machine to a smart device or an experiment with emerging physical AI technology.\nOur Developer Advocacy team is currently based in New York and are now expanding our presence on the West Coast. You’ll report to the SVP of Product & Education.\nWhat you’ll do:\nRepresent Viam at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and other developer events through speaking, teaching, and building alongside developers.\nBuild creative robotics projects that show developers what’s possible with Viam.\nTurn what you build and learn into technical content, including tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and talks.\nGrow engagement across Viam’s Discord and other developer communities, while building your own credibility and presence in the technical communities that matter to our audience.\nExperiment with emerging technologies and developer tools, and identify timely opportunities for Viam to build, teach, or participate.\nBuild, assemble, test, and troubleshoot the software and hardware behind demos and projects.\nBring feedback from developers back to Product and Engineering, and use engagement and platform activation to understand what’s working and where to focus next.\nWhat you bring:\nA track record of creating high-quality technical content for developers, such as tutorials, videos, sample projects, workshops, or talks.\nExperience as a software engineer building, shipping, and maintaining production software used by real users. Experience with Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript is especially relevant.\nStrong technical judgment and the ability to independently scope, build, debug, and iterate on software projects with limited direction.\nHands-on experience with hardware, IoT, embedded systems, electronics, maker projects, or similar physical systems. Professional robotics experience is not required.\nAbility to explain complex technical concepts clearly without losing technical depth.\nA strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new technologies.\nComfort speaking publicly, teaching, appearing on video, and engaging directly with developer communities.\nAbility to move quickly, experiment often, and decide both what is worth building and how to build it.\nComfort traveling and participating in occasional evening or weekend events.\nThe salary for this role is between $220,000 - 250,000 /year.\nFull-time Benefits\nViam’s base salary range for this role is posted above.
